Fire-Class Reinforced Aerogel Compositions

The current disclosure provides reinforced aerogel compositions that are durable and easy to handle, have favorable performance in aqueous environments, have favorable insulation properties, and have favorable, reaction to fire, combustion and flame-resistance properties. Also provided are methods of preparing or manufacturing such reinforced aerogel compositions. In certain embodiments, the composition has a silica-based aerogel framework, reinforced with an open-cell macroporous framework, and includes one or more fire-class additives, where the silica-based aerogel framework comprises at least one hydrophobic-bound silicon and the composition or each of its components has desired properties.

In some embodiments, the binder composition can include a urea-based compound, a bifunctional quaternary ammonium salt, and an aldehyde-based resin. In some embodiments, a resinated substrate can include a plurality of substrates and the binder composition. In some embodiments, a process for making a composite product can include contacting a plurality of substrates with the binder composition. The process can also include heating the resinated substrate to at least partially cure the aldehyde-based resin to produce the composite product. In some embodiments, a composite product can include the plurality of substrates and the aldehyde-based resin at least partially cured. In some embodiments, the plurality of substrates can include lignocellulosic substrates. In other embodiments, the plurality of substrates can include glass fibers.

PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF AN ASPHALT MIX COMPOSITION

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of an asphalt mix composition, said process comprising: (1) providing an asphalt composition and heating said composition to a temperature in the range of from 110 to 200° C.; (2) providing a granular material and heating said material to a temperature in the range of from 110 to 240° C.; (3) providing one or more thermosetting reactive compounds; (4) adding the one or more thermosetting reactive compounds provided in (3) to the asphalt composition obtained in (1) and homogenizing the mixture for a duration in the range of from 2 to 180 s; (5) adding the mixture obtained in (4) to the granular material obtained in (2) and homogenizing the slurry for a duration in the range of from 5 to 180 s. Further, the present invention relates to an asphalt mix composition obtained or obtainable by said process and its use.

The fine fiber can be made from a polymer material and a resinous aldehyde composition such that the general structure of the fiber has a polymer core surrounded by at least a layer of the resinous aldehyde composition.
