Waterborne suspensions include surface treated silica particles, a water dispersable binder resin, at least one surfactant, and an aqueous solvent. The surface treated silica particles have a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic silane surface treatment agents, where the ratio of hydrophilic silane surface treatment agent to hydrophobic silane surface treatment agent is greater than 1. The waterborne suspensions can be coated and dried to form nanostructured tie layers, especially tie layers to silicone or (meth)acrylate layers.

Alternatively or in addition, metal oxide-polymer composites comprise two or more populations of metal oxide particles differing in size, particle size distribution, or shape. Alternatively or in addition, the use of a multicomponent hydrophobizing system including an alkylsilane to fabricate metal oxide-polymer composite particles increases the tribocharge of the composite particles.

Provided are spherical silica particles that can achieve a lower dielectric dissipation factor when used to fill a resin, and a resin composition using the same.

Spherical silica particles (X) are those having a surface fractal dimension of 1.0-2.3. The resin composition contains the spherical silica particles (X) and at least one resin selected from a thermoplastic resin and a thermosetting resin. The specific surface area of the spherical silica particles (X) is preferably 0.1-2.0 m.sup.2/g. The average particle diameter of the spherical silica particles (X) is preferably 1-30 m.

Provided are spherical silica particles that can achieve a lower dielectric dissipation factor when used to fill a resin, and a resin composition using the same. The spherical silica particles (X) are those in which the number of water molecules desorbed from the spherical silica particles (X) when the spherical silica particles (X) are heated from 50 C. to 1000 C. at a rate of temperature increase of 25 C./min. is 0.001-0.010 mmoL/g and in which the specific surface area is 0.1-2.0 m.sup.2/g. The resin composition contains the silica particles (X) and at least one resin selected from a thermoplastic resin and a thermosetting resin.

Surface-modified particle material and slurry composition

A particle material that has high dispersibility in a dispersion medium such as toluene having high hydrophobicity, and a slurry composition in which the particle material is used, are provided for solving the problem. A surface-modified particle material of the present invention includes: a particle material formed of an inorganic material; and a surface treatment agent formed of a silane compound having a first functional group that has any of C, N, and O atoms away over five or more atoms from Si to which an alkoxide is bound, the surface treatment agent allowing surface treatment of the particle material in such an amount that a degree of hydrophobicity becomes not less than 30%. Dispersibility is enhanced also in a dispersion medium having high hydrophobicity in a case where a functional group having a predetermined structure is introduced so as to impart predetermined or higher hydrophobicity.

RUBBER COMPOUNDS FOR USE IN PRODUCING VEHICLE TIRES

The invention provides diene rubber-silica compounds comprising a diene rubber matrix having dispersed therein a silica filler, wherein said silica filler is reversibly coupled to the diene rubber matrix via a dynamic imine bond. In particular, it provides such compounds in which the diene rubber is styrene-butadiene rubber. Such compounds can be vulcanized and are suitable for producing vehicle tire components, such as tire treads.
