Dispersible antimicrobial complex and coatings therefrom
Disclosed are latexes, suspensions, and colloids having a cationic antimicrobial compound complexed with an anionic surfactant. The surfactant may have greater affinity for the antimicrobial compound than other anionic surfactants and other anions in the latex, suspension, or colloid that contribute to disperse phase stability to prevent disrupting the dispersions. Dispersions containing the antimicrobial compound may therefore have a shelf life comparable to dispersions that are otherwise identical but lack the cationic antimicrobial compound and its complexed anionic surfactant. Coatings made with the complexes can exhibit essentially undiminished antimicrobial activity.
Two component aliphatic polyurethane/polyurea/polyaspartic coating
A polymer based antimicrobial coating composition comprising water; polyol; paint additives; hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI hardener); a catalyst; and an antimicrobial agent, wherein said water takes up between 30% to 35% of the polymer composition by weight, and the polymer has a pentane adipate diol with dimethyl propionic acid functionality with an acid number from 75 to 95 and hydroxyl number from 320 to 360, and amounts to 12% to 15% of the polymer composition by weight.
Stabilizers for silicate paints
The invention relates to a silicate coating containing (A) at least one compound of the formula (I), ##STR00001##
where R.sup.1 represents H, C.sub.1-C.sub.4-alkyl, CH.sub.2CH.sub.2OH, or CH.sub.2CH(CH.sub.3)OH, (B) at least one silicate binder, (C) if appropriate, one or more polymer binders, (D) if appropriate, further additives usual for the production of silica coatings, and (E) water.
Aqueous coatings containing biosurfactants as bio-adjuvants and methods for using same
Disclosed is an aqueous coating composition including at least one latex polymer derived from at least one monomer copolymerized or blended with a rhamnolipid and/or sophorolipid biosurfactant, which in one embodiment is a mono-rhamnolipid. Also provided is an aqueous architectural coating composition including at least one latex polymer derived from at least one monomer copolymerized or blended with a biosurfactant, at least one pigment, and water.
Antimicrobial laminates and coatings indicating efficacy
Disclosed is an antimicrobial coating and antimicrobial laminate that can be used on surfaces to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses. Spray-on techniques can be used with antimicrobial agents mixed with an air-drying antimicrobial coating and a heated liquid plastic antimicrobial coating. Efficacy of the antimicrobial coating can be monitored by detecting changes in texture, color, opaqueness, fluorescence, and other techniques. Soft plastics and acrylics can be used to suspend the antimicrobial agents to provide better efficacy in the release of antimicrobial agents over time.
Coatings with antimicrobial copper glass nanoparticles and diol compounds
Antimicrobial compositions and coating compositions including antimicrobial compositions including copper glass nanoparticles and an additive alkyldiol compound. Coating compositions including the antimicrobial composition exhibit enhanced antimicrobial efficacy and improved coatings performance characteristics including ability to appropriately shade for a base, starting masstone color, as compared to coatings compositions containing copper glass nanoparticles and no such alkyldiol additives.
Coating composition and articles made therefrom
The instant invention provides an aqueous dispersion, a coating composition, coating layers and coated article made therefrom. The coating composition according to the present invention comprises: (1) the inventive aqueous dispersion comprising the melt blending product of: (a) from 50 to 99 percent by weight of one or more first polyesters, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said one or more first polyesters have an acid number in the range of from less than 15, for example less than 10, or in the alternative less than 5, based on the total solid content of the one or more first polyesters; (b) from 1 to 50 percent by weight of one or more stabilizing agents comprising at least one second polyester, based on the total solid content of the dispersion, wherein said second polyester has a carboxylic acid group and an acid number equal to or greater than 15, for example greater than 20, based on the solid content of the second polyester; (c) one or more neutralizing agents; and (d) from 15 to 90 percent by weight of water, based on the total weight of the dispersion; wherein said dispersion has a solid content of 10 to 85 percent, based on the total weight of the dispersion; and (2) one or more cross-linking agents.
