Aqueous alkyd resin emulsion compositions and methods of applying them for providing an exceptionally durable film capable of imparting a gloss sheen to the substrate while simultaneously entrapping pigments, MYLAR or glitter flakes, or other low aspect ratio materials so that they might durably adhere to a variety of surfaces, including, but not limited to, urethane rubber, vehicle tires, and vinyl. The emulsion compositions comprise an alkyd resin, a mixture of alkyd resins, a mixture of alkyd resins and conventional latex resins, or a mixture of all or part of the above and silicone oils. The low aspect ratio materials component of the compositions may be comprised of any combination of various pigments, MYLAR or metallic flakes, or standard glitter flakes, all in a wide variety of sizes, colors and shapes. The emulsion compositions also optionally comprise thickeners, metallic driers, defoamers, and/or preservatives. The methods comprise applying the alkyd resin emulsion composition with low aspect ratio materials to a substrate surface.

ANTIMOLD EMULSION COATING MATERIAL, ANTIMOLD FINE PARTICLE DISPERSION, AND ARTICLE WITH ANTIMOLD FINE PARTICLE DISPERSION

The present invention provides an antimold emulsion coating material and an antimold fine particle dispersion which exhibit excellent antimold effects over an extended period even when exposed to a wet heat environment. The antimold emulsion coating material contains composite tungsten oxide fine particles whose surfaces are coated with a coating film containing at least one selected from hydrolysis products of metal chelate compounds, polymers of hydrolysis products of metal chelate compounds, hydrolysis products of metal cyclic oligomer compounds, and polymers of hydrolysis products of metal cyclic oligomer compounds (surface-treated composite tungsten oxide fine particles), and a resin emulsion. Since the surface-treated composite tungsten oxide fine particles maintain excellent photo-thermal conversion characteristics even when exposed to a wet heat environment, the antimold emulsion coating material containing the surface-treated composite tungsten oxide fine particles and the resin emulsion has the effect of exhibiting excellent antimold effects over an extended period.

A multifunctional broad spectrum antimicrobial composition is described. The composition can be incorporated into a wood preservative, or used as an additive to provide antimicrobial properties to water-based wood coatings. The composition is a concentrated water-miscible emulsion containing 3-iodo-2-propynyl N-butylcarbamate (IPBC), carbendazim (BCM) and propiconazole (PPCZ), and has antimicrobial activity against a wide variety of fungal organisms, including surface molds, blue stain fungi and wood rotting fungi. The composition can act as an in-can preservative and is useful for antimicrobial protection of wood and wood-based substrates.
