Disclosed are novel substituted catechol polymeric dispersants and related method of preparing. Also disclosed are methods of dispersing at least one pigment comprising the following steps: contacting an aqueous solution containing at least one pigment with the polymeric dispersant copolymers as described herein.
ETHER AMINE COMPOSITIONS AND COATINGS
The present technology relates generally to aqueous dispersion or emulsion compositions that include a polymeric binder resin and an ether amine. Specifically, the polymeric binder resin includes acid functional groups, at least a portion of which are neutralized by the ether amine such that the polymeric binder resin is dissolved or dispersed in the water, provided that the polymeric binder resin is not a polyurethane and the ether amine is a compound of formula I: wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently C.sup.1-C.sup.4 alkyl or C.sup.3-C.sup.4 cycloalkyl group; or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, together with the nitrogen to which they are attached, form a C.sup.4-C.sup.5 membered heterocycloalkyl ring; A is a C.sup.1-C.sup.6 alkylene or C.sup.1-C.sup.6 cycloalkylene ring; and R.sup.3 is C.sup.1-C.sup.4 alkyl or C.sup.3-C.sup.4 cycloalkyl group; provided that the compound of formula I contains no more than 10 carbons.

AQUEOUS DISPERSION OF INORGANIC FIBERS AND METHOD FOR FORMULATING AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITION THEREFROM
The present disclosure is directed to an aqueous dispersion of inorganic fibers and a method for formulating an aqueous coating composition therefrom. The aqueous dispersion of inorganic fibers comprises water, inorganic fibers, a dispersing agent, an anti-settling agent and optionally additional additives, wherein the inorganic fibers have an average fiber diameter of from 1 micron to 100 microns and have a number average aspect ratio of from 1.1:1 to 10:1; and wherein the aqueous dispersion does not contain a film-forming amount of a polymeric resin.

The presently claimed invention relates to novel monomers which can be used for preparing polymers which are useful as dispersants for pigments and fillers, as wetting agent and as thickening agents in liquid compositions.

WATER-BASED COATING COMPOSITION, AND MULTI-LAYER COATING FILM
A challenge of the present invention is to provide a water-based coating composition capable of providing a design superior in depth feeling in the formation of a multilayer coating film having a so-called color clear coating film. The present invention relates to a water-based coating composition comprising a coating film-forming resin (i) and a coloring pigment dispersion (ii), wherein the coating film-forming resin (i) comprises: an acrylic resin emulsion (A) having an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less in an amount of 10 to 60% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i),a water-soluble acrylic resin (B) in an amount of 5 to 40% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i), and a melamine resin (C) in an amount of 20 to 40% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i); and the coloring pigment dispersion (ii) comprises a coloring pigment (D) having a 90%-volume particle diameter (D90) of 100 nm or less.
Stain Resistant Coating Compositions
A coating composition is prepared from an aqueous dispersion of a mixture of (i) urethane acrylate resin particles; (ii) acrylic resin particles; and (iii) a matting agent. A method of imparting stain resistance to a substrate, comprising applying the coating composition to at least a portion of the substrate.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING AQUEOUS DISPERSION
An object of the present invention is to provide an aqueous dispersion capable of forming a coating film excellent in water resistance, antifogging properties and durable light resistance, a method for producing the aqueous dispersion, an aqueous coating material, and a coated article. This aqueous dispersion comprises water, a surfactant and polymer particles dispersed in the water, wherein the polymer particles contained in the aqueous dispersion are fluoropolymer particles and (meth)acrylate polymer particles, or polymer particles comprising a fluoropolymer and a (meth)acrylate polymer; the fluoropolymer contains units based on a fluoroolefin in an amount of from 95 to 100 mol % to all units which the fluoropolymer comprises; the (meth)acrylate polymer contains units based on an alkyl(meth)acrylate in an amount of from 75 to 100 mol % to all units which the (meth)acrylate polymer comprises; and the surfactant is a compound of such a structure that to a benzene ring, 1 group represented by the formula (OQ).sub.nOSO.sub.3.sup.X.sup.+ (where Q is an alkylene group, n is an integer of from 2 to 48, and X.sup.+ is Na.sup.+ or NH.sub.4.sup.+) and 2 to 4 phenylalkyl groups are bonded. A method for producing the aqueous dispersion is also provided.

An object of the present invention is to provide an aqueous dispersion capable of forming a coating film excellent in coloring stability, a method for producing the aqueous dispersion, an aqueous coating material and a coated article. This aqueous dispersion comprises water, a surfactant and a fluorinated polymer, wherein the fluorinated polymer is dispersed in the water, wherein the fluorinated polymer comprises units based a fluoroolefin and units based on a monomer having a hydrophilic group, and the surfactant is a compound of such a structure that to a benzene ring, 1 group represented by the formula (OQ).sub.nOSO.sub.3.sup.X.sup.+ and 2 to 4 phenyl alkyl groups are bonded (where Q represents a C.sub.2-4 alkylene group, n represents an integer of from 2 to 48, and X.sup.+ represents Na.sup.+ or NH.sub.4.sup.+).
AQUEOUS POLYESTER DISPERSIONS, ARTICLES HAVING A COATING FORMED FROM SUCH AQUEOUS DISPERSIONS, AND METHODS OF COATING
An aqueous dispersion comprising: water; a hydrophobic aromatic polyester having a number average molecular weight of greater than 7,000 Daltons; and a water-dispersible aromatic polyester dispersant; wherein the hydrophobic aromatic polyester and the water-dispersible aromatic polyester dispersant form a stable aqueous dispersion; and wherein the hydrophobic aromatic polyester is present in the aqueous dispersion in an amount of less than 50 wt-%, based on the total weight of the hydrophobic aromatic polyester and the water-dispersible aromatic polyester dispersant.
