Defoaming wetting agents for aqueous coating systems

The disclosure relates to the use of compounds of specific structure as defoaming wetting agents for aqueous coating systems, for example paints and varnishes. The disclosure is more particularly related to methods of reducing the surface tension and/or increasing the density of an aqueous coating system, which methods include adding alcohol propoxylates to an aqueous coating system. The alcohol propoxylates have the general structure RO(PO).sub.xH, in which R is a saturated alkyl radical having 7 to 10 C atoms, PO is a propylene oxide unit, and x is a number in the range from 4 to 6. The resulting aqueous coating composition has good wetting properties, but is low in foam, so it does not disrupt processing operations of the coating system.

Polymeric antimicrobial surfactant

Polycationic polymeric antimicrobial surfactant and polymeric biocompatible antimicrobial surfactant compositions are useful in dispersing various compounds in a carrier liquid. The polycationic polymeric antimicrobial surfactant and polymeric biocompatible antimicrobial surfactant compositions employ polymers having both hydrophilic domains and hydrophobic domains so that the compositions can disperse particles such as polymer particles or droplets in a continuous phase as well as provide stable dispersions that have not been provided before. The antimicrobial properties of the compositions provide much-needed capabilities of fighting infectious agents such as bacteria and viruses in a wide spectrum of products such as paint, adhesives, and coatings. Methods of using these compositions as well as methods of making products using the compositions are disclosed.

INTUMESCENT FIRE-RETARDANT AND ANTI-CORROSIVE COATING MODIFIED BY POLYANILINE-SILICON CARBIDE AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF

An intumescent fire-retardant and anti-corrosive coating modified by polyaniline-silicon carbide and a preparation method thereof are provided, the coating includes a compound A and a compound B. The compound A includes a waterborne epoxy resin emulsion, polyaniline-silicon carbide composite material, fire-retardant filler, titanium dioxide, aluminum hydroxide, talc powder, a wetting dispersant, a defoaming agent, a flow agent and water, the compound B includes an epoxy hardener. The polyaniline-silicon carbide composite material is prepared from silicon carbide, phenylamine, protonic acid and an oxidizing agent through an ice bath. The polyaniline-silicon carbide composite material can enhance dispersion in the emulsion through the organic-inorganic composite, and silicon carbide has high thermal stability and good density, while polyaniline serves as a material with unique fire-retardant properties. The synergy between the two effectively enhances the fire resistance and anti-corrosion performance of the coating, strengthens the strength of the intumescent layer, and solves existing problems.

MULTI-STAGE POLYMERIC LATEXES, COATING COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING SUCH LATEXES, AND ARTICLES COATED THEREWITH

An aqueous coating composition is provided that is useful in coating a variety of substrates, including interior or exterior portions of food or beverage cans. The coating composition includes a resin system that includes a multi-stage latex. In some embodiments, the multi-stage latex is formed using a process that includes emulsion polymerizing two or more stages in the presence of an aqueous dispersion including a water-dispersible polymer. In certain preferred embodiments, the water-dispersible polymer is a polyether polymer.
