OPACIFYING CLUSTERS FOR USE IN PAINT COMPOSITIONS
An opacifying cluster which may be added to a coating composition to provide a coating composition with low gloss and a high level of opacity. The opacifying cluster can include a polymeric latex binder coalescing cluster components into a generally homogeneous particle. The cluster components may include discrete polymeric particles each defining a closed void volume therein, a plurality of inorganic pigment particles, and a plurality of extender pigment particles. The clusters may also include a porosity of the polymeric latex binder thereof defining a binder void volume. Also provided is a paint product including such a pigment cluster.
UVC REFLECTIVE COATING
The present disclosure provides an ultraviolet light-C (UVC) reflective coating composition. The UVC reflective coating includes a polymer binder of a first volume having a first refractive index and an inorganic material of a second volume having a second refractive index at least 0.2 greater than the first refractive index, the second volume in ratio to the first volume such that the reflective coating is at or below critical pigment volume concentration (CVPC), wherein the reflective coating is configured to diffusely reflect at least 10% UVC.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of an associative thickener having a hydrophobic portion with a calculated log P in the range of from 2.7 to 5.0; and composite particles comprising phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles adsorbed to the surfaces of TiO.sub.2 particles; wherein the phosphorus acid functionalized polymer particles have a core-shell morphology wherein the core protuberates from the shell. The composition of the present invention provides formulators with flexibility in their use of low and mid shear rate thickeners to balance paint performance properties.
