HIGHLY EFFECTIVE FUNCTIONAL ADDITIVE PRODUCTS
This invention concerns highly effective functional additive products that comprise diatomite. More particularly, it concerns such functional additive products possessing particle size distributions which make them more effective as functional additives in filled systems. Higher effectiveness is demonstrated through lower Standard Sheen and/or reduced unit consumption relative to diatomite functional additives already in the public domain. Such products may also possess high brightness, low tint and/or an absence of detectable crystalline silica.
METAL AZO PIGMENTS
The novel yellow metal azo pigments based on at least three metal azo compounds, which differ at least in the type of metal, have improved colour strengths and are of excellent suitability for pigmentation of pigment preparations for a broad field of use.

Method for producing polymer emulsion for water-resistant coating film
The present invention relates to [1] a method of producing a polymer emulsion for water-resistant coating films with excellent water resistance, including emulsion polymerizing a radical polymerizable monomer (B) in the presence of a compound (A) represented by the following formula (1); and [2] a method of producing a polymer coating film, including a step 1 of emulsion polymerizing a radical polymerizable monomer (B) in the presence of a compound (A) represented by the following formula (1), to obtain a polymer emulsion having an average particle diameter of 30 nm or more and 300 nm or less, and a step 2 of applying the obtained polymer emulsion on a substrate and then drying: ##STR00001##
wherein R.sup.1 represents an alkyl group having 16 or more and 24 or less carbon atoms; m represents an average addition molar number of (CH.sub.2H.sub.2O) and is 0.5 or more and 10 or less; and M represents a cation or a hydrogen atom.
Polymer, polymer modified titanium dioxide pigment, and method of forming a pigmented paint formulation
A new polymer that is capable of forming a composite with titanium dioxide particles and latex particles when admixed therewith is provided. The new polymer includes a water soluble polymer backbone, a first functional group attached to the polymer backbone and having an affinity for latex, and a second functional group attached to the polymer backbone and capable of forming a bond with titanium dioxide. A polymer modified titanium dioxide pigment and a method of forming a pigmented paint formulation are also provided.
GLUCOSE-SENSING DEVICE WITH MALTOSE BLOCKING LAYER
This disclosure relates to a glucose-sensing electrode including a nanoporous metal layer and a maltose-blocking layer formed over the nanoporous metal layer. The nanoporous metal layer is capable of oxidizing both glucose and maltose without an enzyme specific to glucose or maltose in the glucose-sensing electrode. The maltose-blocking layer has porosity that permits glucose to pass therethrough and inhibits maltose from passing therethrough toward the nanoporous metal layer.
Fast Drying Waterborne Coatings
Coating and ink formulations are disclosed that are comprised of an anionically colloidally stabilized copolymer dispersion, a polyamine additive that can react with anionic groups, and a volatile base that can help shift the pH of the copolymer dispersion early in the drying process of films or coatings from the copolymer dispersion. The formulations are used in construction and roof coatings.
Polymerisation process and polymer product
A method of polymerizing monomer to form polymer at the surface of particulate material, said method comprising: providing a dispersion of said particulate material in a continuous liquid phase, said dispersion comprising a RAFT agent as a stabilizer for said particulate material, and said continuous liquid phase comprising one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers; and polymerizing said one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers under the control of said RAFT agent to thereby form polymer at the surface of said particulate material.
