PIGMENT COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING CHLORINATED COPPER PHTHALOCYANINE PIGMENTS IN THE GAMMA CRYSTAL FORM
20190256712 · 2019-08-22 ·

The present technology is directed to pigment compositions having a pure, or substantially pure, crystal form, containing less chlorine than standard tetrachlorinated copper phthalocyanine pigments, while giving similar color space, chromaticity, fastness properties, and color travel in automotive waterborne and solvent borne systems. These pigments are more advantageous from a toxicity and environmental perspective, and allow the manufacturer to produce pigments in a safe and economical manner.

A pigment pellet preparation, comprises one or more effect pigment and one or more thermosetting resin. The effect pigment is dispersed in the thermosetting resin. The thermosetting resin has 3 or more reactive terminal groups and has an acid number from about 10 to about 50 mg KOH/g resin. The preparation comprises from about 70% to about 90% by weight of one or more effect pigment and from about 5% to about 35% by weight of one or more thermosetting resin. The pigment and thermosetting resin comprise about 95% or more of the preparation. The pellets have a diameter of about 0.5 mm to about 5 mm and a length of about 1 mm to about 5 cm.

COLORED PARTICULATE BLENDS AND METHODS FOR PRODUCTION AND USE THEREOF

Colored particulate blends may be produced by combining thermoplastic polymer particulates that differ from one another in color. Such colored particulate blends may comprise: a first plurality of thermoplastic polymer particulates comprising a first thermoplastic polymer and a first colorant blended with the first thermoplastic polymer in an interior of the thermoplastic polymer particulates, and a second plurality of thermoplastic polymer particulates comprising a second thermoplastic polymer and, optionally, a second colorant blended with the second thermoplastic polymer in an interior of the thermoplastic polymer particulates. The first plurality of thermoplastic polymer particulates has a first color, and the second plurality of thermoplastic polymer particulates has a second color different than the first color, and the second colorant, if present, is different than the first colorant. The colored particulate blends are visually homogenous and appear as a single color different than the first color and the second color.
