ADDITIVE FOR QUALITY DETERMINATION OF CONVERSION COATINGS

A method of applying a trivalent chromium or chromium-free conversion coating to a metallic substrate including mixing a dye compound that interacts with electromagnetic radiation outside the human visual spectrum but not electromagnetic radiation that is within the human visual spectrum to produce an observable emission into the trivalent chromium or chromium-free conversion coating mixture to allow for inspection of the coating after applied with a correlating electromagnetic radiation source.

ORGANOSILOXANE-BASED SURFACE TREATMENTS FOR ENHANCING THE ADHESION AND LUBRICITY OF METAL SURFACES

Compositions for treating a substrate to provide increased lubricity to portions of the substrate surface that come into contact with the surface of a mating component are provided. The treated substrates provide improved lubricity, while maintaining adhesion between the surface of the substrate and an overlying polymer coating and imparting corrosion resistance to the substrate surface. The compositions include a silanol coupling agent in combination with lubricating particles, and an acid, which are dissolved or dispersed in a mixture of organic solvent and water.

The present invention relates to an anticorrosive agent for cavity preservation, and to the use thereof. The anticorrosive agent has a base composition of 40 to 50 wt. % base fluid, 3 to 10 wt. % alkyd resin, 10 to 20 wt. % sulfonate and/or salicylate component, 15 to 25 wt.˜% filler, 0.003 to 0.007 wt. % siccative catalyst, based in each case on the total mass of the anticorrosive agent. In addition to the base mixture, the anticorrosive agent includes 1 to 5 wt. % phyllosilicate and/or 1 to 8 wt.˜% ester wax and/or paraffin wax, based in each case on the total mass of the anticorrosive agent, for adjusting the rheological properties of the anticorrosive agent. The anticorrosive agent, however, does not include any aminic corrosion protection or binder components, or any anti-skinning agent.

Corrosion inhibiting compositions and coatings including the same

A corrosion inhibiting composition includes a first plurality of carriers and a second plurality of carriers. The first plurality of carriers has a first carrier body which encapsulates a film-forming compound. The second plurality of carriers has a second carrier body encapsulates a corrosion inhibitor. Each of the first and second carrier bodies is formed of a degradable material. Coatings and methods for inhibiting corrosion on a metal substrate are also described herein.

A sealer composition for a cementitious substrate, a cementitious structure sealed with the sealer composition, and a method of sealing a steel reinforced cementitious structure with the sealer composition. The sealer composition includes a substantially non- aqueous blend of a first silane, a second silane having a higher molecular weight than the first silane, and a corrosion inhibitor. The corrosion inhibitor is soluble in silane, soluble in solvent-diluted silane, and at least partially soluble in water. The cementitious structure includes a cementitious substrate and the sealer applied to the surface of the substrate and at least partially penetrating into the substrate. The method of sealing a steel reinforced cementitious structure from intrusion of corrosion-causing agents includes applying the sealer to the surface of a steel reinforced cementitious substrate and permitting the sealer composition to penetrate into the substrate to seal the substrate.

Sol-gel coating compositions and related processes

An alkoxysilane is contacted with water and an inorganic acid to form a first composition. A zirconium alkoxide is contacted with an organic acid to form a second composition. One or more alkoxysilanes and an organic acid are contacted with a mixture of the first and second compositions to form a sol-gel composition, to which a photoinitiator is added. The sol-gel composition has a ratio of a number of moles of silicon to a number of moles of zirconium (n.sub.Si/n.sub.Zr) ranging from about 2 to about 10. The sol-gel composition is applied on a substrate (e.g., an aluminum alloy substrate) multiple times to form multiple sol-gel layers, and at least one of the sol-gel layers is cured by UV radiation. The multiple sol-gel layers are then thermally cured.
