Colloidal antimicrobial and anti-biofouling coatings for surfaces
Methods and formulations for antimicrobial and anti-biofouling coating comprising: a hollow round colloidal structure, comprising: an active polymer shell; and an active or inert core; wherein the active polymer shell comprises one and more polymers with antimicrobial and anti-biofouling activities selected from the group consisting of polyethylenimine (PEI), functionalized chitosan (CHI), polyquaternium, poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMD); wherein the active or inert core contains one and more disinfectants, biocides, fragrances or inert solvent; and wherein the hollow round colloidal structure is stable for at least 3 months.
ANTI-FOULING PAINTS AND COATINGS
Disclosed herein are a materials such as a coating, an elastomer, an adhesive, a sealant, a textile finish, a wax, and a filler for such a material, wherein the material includes an proteinaceous molecule such as a peptide and/an enzyme that confer a metal binding, an anti-fouling and/or an antibiotic property to the material. In particular, disclosed herein are marine coatings such as a marine paint that comprise an anti-fouling peptide sequence that reversibly binds a metal cation that is toxic to a fouling organism. Also disclosed herein are methods of reducing fouling on a surface by treating the surface with a metal binding peptide.
Biofunctional Materials
Provided are methods and compositions for self-cleaning that include a lysozyme capable of decomposing a microbe, a substrate applied to a solid surface, and a linker moiety bound to an outer surface of said substrate and an active group of said digestive protein, said linker moiety between said lysozyme and said substrate and covalently linking said lysozyme to a surface of said substrate optionally by an amide bond.
SILICONE HYDROGEL LENSES WITH WATER-RICH SURFACES
The invention is related to a hydrated silicone hydrogel contact lens having a layered structural configuration: a lower water content silicone hydrogel core (or bulk material) completely covered with a layer of a higher water content hydrogel totally or substantially free of silicone. A hydrated silicone hydrogel contact lens of the invention possesses high oxygen permeability for maintaining the corneal health and a soft, water-rich, lubricious surface for wearing comfort.
Curable composition based on polysiloxanes
A curable composition can have a surface with amphiphilic properties which is thus able to counteract biofouling. The curable composition includes: a component A: at least one polysiloxane, a component B: at least one polyether bearing silyl groups and/or a reaction product of a polyether bearing silyl groups with one or more isocyanate-containing compounds, and a component C: at least one catalyst.
DURABLE PHOTOPOLYMERIZABLE CROSS-LINKED ANTI-FOULING COATINGS
Durable, anti-fouling, crosslinked zwitterionic coatings that are grafted to the surface of a substrate through covalent bonding are disclosed. When exposed to a light source, zwitterionic monomers react with a crosslinker and with activated radicals at the surface of the substrate, simultaneously forming the crosslinked zwitterionic coating and anchoring it to the surface of the substrate. Photomasking techniques can be used to micropattern the zwitterionic coatings. The zwitterionic coatings can be applied to a variety of substrates, including medical devices and systems.
Systems, methods, and apparatuses for reducing hydrodynamic frictional drag
Systems, methods and apparatuses are provided for the reduction of hydrodynamic frictional drag. These systems, methods and apparatuses can include a vessel surface having an external layer and a plurality of dimples, wherein the external layer comprises a hydrophilic material, and wherein each of the dimples includes an inner surface having a superhydrophobic coating. The dimples can be configured to maintain an air-water interface as one or more fluids flow over the vessel surface. In some embodiments, a pressure reservoir can be coupled with the dimples, and can include an acoustic speaker to vibrate the air-water interface.
Biofunctional materials
The present invention relates to compositions and processes in the field of self-cleaning system using digestive proteins. One composition includes a substrate, a digestive protein capable of decomposing a stain molecule, and a linker moiety bound to both said digestive protein and said substrate. The processes include binding a substrate to a surface and forming a linker moiety between a digestive protein and said substrate.
Thermolysin for easy-cleaning of insect body stains
A substrate or coating is provided that includes a protease with enzymatic activity toward a component of a biological stain. Also provided is a process for facilitating the removal of a biological stain is provided wherein an inventive substrate or coating including a protease is capable of enzymatically degrading of one or more components of the biological stain to facilitate biological stain removal from the substrate or said coating.
Organism adhesion reduction paint, method for manufacturing the same, and organism adhesion reduction coating
A method for manufacturing an organism adhesion reduction paint includes a first process of gelling a raw material composition that includes polyvinyl alcohol and at least one of a hydroxyl group-containing inorganic compound or an inorganic oxide; a second process of drying and subsequently pulverizing a resulting product in the first process to thereby obtain a composite gel fine powder; and a third process of adding the composite gel fine powder to a main component of a two-component urethane paint and stirring, to thereby prepare a main component of the organism adhesion reduction paint, and also adding a curing agent immediately before use.
