Additionally, the anti-fouling coating composition can comprise an acetoxy, alkoxy, and/or ketoxime functional adhesion promoter.
Silicone hydrogel lenses with water-rich surfaces
The invention is related to a hydrated silicone hydrogel contact lens having a layered structural configuration: a lower water content silicone hydrogel core (or bulk material) completely covered with a layer of a higher water content hydrogel totally or substantially free of silicone. A hydrated silicone hydrogel contact lens of the invention possesses high oxygen permeability for maintaining the corneal health and a soft, water-rich, lubricious surface for wearing comfort.
Surface-modifying agent and article using same
Provided are a surface-modifying agent that enables production of a coating film that preserves transparency of a substrate while displaying high water repellency and excellent stain resistance, particularly in terms of wipeability of oil-based ink, and also an article for which the surface-modifying agent is used. The surface-modifying agent includes a triazine skeleton, a (meth)acrylate group bonded to the triazine skeleton via an urethane bond, and a perfluoropolyether chain bonded to the triazine skeleton.
Alternating ring-opening metathesis polymerization
The invention relates to the field of polymers and olefin polymerization, and more specifically olefin metathesis polymerization. The invention provides regioregular alternating polymers and methods of synthesizing such polymers. To demonstrate, polymers were synthesized and modified with a FRET pair (Trp/Dansyl) post-polymerization.
SILICONE HYDROGEL LENS WITH A CROSSLINKED HYDROPHILIC COATING
The invention is related to a cost-effective method for making a silicone hydrogel contact lens having a crosslinked hydrophilic coating thereon. A method of the invention involves heating a silicone hydrogel contact lens in an aqueous solution in the presence of a water-soluble, highly branched, thermally-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material having positively-charged azetidinium groups, to and at a temperature from about 40 C. to about 140 C. for a period of time sufficient to covalently attach the thermally-crosslinkable hydrophilic polymeric material onto the surface of the silicone hydrogel contact lens through covalent linkages each formed between one azetidinium group and one of the reactive functional groups on and/or near the surface of the silicone hydrogel contact lens, thereby forming a crosslinked hydrophilic coating on the silicone hydrogel contact lens. Such method can be advantageously implemented directly in a sealed lens package during autoclave.
Curable organopolysiloxane antifouling composite coating film, and antifouling substrate coated with the same
[Problem] To provide a curable organopolysiloxane antifouling composite coating film obtained by using a urethane resin anticorrosive coating film excellent in curability instead of one or two organopolysiloxane intermediate coating film layers (Tie Coats) to layer an organopolysiloxane antifouling coating film excellent in both interlayer adhesiveness with the anticorrosive coating film and antifouling performance; and an antifouling substrate coated with the composite coating film. [Solution] An antifouling composite coating film, comprising a laminated urethane resin anticorrosive coating film and antifouling coating film, (I) the urethane resin anticorrosive coating film being formed from an anticorrosive paint composition comprising a main agent selected from the group consisting of polyols and glycidyl ethers, and an isocyanate curing agent, (II) the antifouling coating film being formed from a curable polysiloxane composition comprising specific components (a), (b), and (c).
SWITCHABLE ANTIFOULING COATINGS AND USES THEREOF
The present invention relates to antifouling coatings capable of being switched by using heat or ultraviolet light. Prior to switching, the coating includes an onium cation component having antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Upon switching, the coating is converted to a conjugated polymer state, and the cationic component is released with any adsorbed biofilm layer. Thus, the coatings herein have switchable and releasable properties. Methods of making and using such coatings are also described.
HYDROPHILIC MATERIALS INCLUDING SULFONATE COPOLYMER AND AMINO RESIN
The invention provides a cured product (for example, a film including the cured product) which has an excellent balance between hydrophilicity and abrasion resistance, can retain high hydrophilicity even when washed with water, and can remain hydrophilic and resistant to the attachment of (or can be easily cleaned of) contaminants even when subjected to long storage or heating, and a composition which can give such cured products. A cured product is obtained by curing a composition which includes a copolymer (i) including structural units represented by specific chemical formulae, and an amino resin (ii).
Method of Preparing a Zwitterionic Copolymer
A method for preparing a zwitterionic co-polymer comprising the steps of: a) providing a solution of at least one ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable zwitterionic monomer dissolved in a solvent; b) combining said solution of zwitterionic monomer with at least one co-monomer being selected from cationic, anionic and non-ionic ethylenically unsaturated monomers; c) polymerizing the zwitterionic monomer and said at least one co-monomerin the presence of said solvent to form a solution or dispersion of co-polymer; and, d) replacing at least part of said solvent with a further solvent in which said co-polymer shows sufficient solubility to form a solution of said co-polymer in that further solvent. Step b) and step c) of this method may be performed sequentially or concurrently.
