A piston having a piston crown with a combustion chamber, and a circumferential ring belt extending from the piston crown and having a plurality of ring grooves separated by piston lands. At least one of the piston lands, ring grooves or top surface of the crown is provided with a coating comprising hexagonal boron nitride. The coating can be made solely of hexagonal boron nitride, or can additionally include a resin. The coating can be a single layer coating or a multiple layer coating.

This disclosure provides coatings that eliminate the problem of persistent oil or grease smudges deposited on transparent coatings. Some variations provide an oil-smudge-resistant material comprising discrete inclusions dispersed within a continuous matrix, wherein one of the discrete inclusions and the continuous matrix is an oleophobic material, and the other is an oleophilic material. Specific embodiments incorporate segmented polyurethanes with oleophobic fluoropolymers and oleophilic hydrocarbons. Some embodiments utilize inorganic oleophilic particles in an oleophobic matrix. Some embodiments condense urethane-silane crosslinkers with other silanes to form discrete domains of oleophobic or oleophilic silanes within a continuous matrix of oleophilic or oleophobic polymer. Waterborne coatings are provided in which one of the discrete inclusions and the continuous matrix is derived from an aqueous dispersion of a linear crosslinkable polyurethane containing charged groups, and the other is derived from a crosslinking agent containing charged groups.

The invention provides a water- and oil-repelling member having a primer layer as a first layer on at least one surface of a base material and further having a water- and oil-repelling layer as a second layer on the outer surface of the primer layer. The primer layer comprises a layer containing nano-diamonds and having a film thickness of 0.5 to 500 nm, the main component being an organic silicon compound having a plurality of silanol groups within a molecule. The water- and oil-repelling layer comprises a layer having a film thickness of 0.5 to 30 nm, the main component being a cured product of a hydrolysable fluorine-containing compound. The water- and oil-repelling member can stably and simply impart a water- and oil-repelling coat having excellent abrasion resistance to various base materials. In addition, the primer layer and the water- and oil-repelling layer can be coated even in a room-temperature (25 C.) process.

The present invention provides a method for producing an optical film excellent in anti-fouling properties and scratch resistance as well as anti-reflection properties. The method includes the steps of: (1) applying a lower layer resin and an upper layer resin; (2) forming a resin layer having the uneven structure on a surface thereof by pressing a mold against the lower layer resin and the upper layer resin from the upper layer resin side in the state where the applied lower layer resin and upper layer resin are stacked; and (3) curing the resin layer, the lower layer resin containing at least one kind of first monomer that contains no fluorine atoms, the upper layer resin containing a fluorine-containing monomer and at least one kind of second monomer that contains no fluorine atoms, at least one of the first monomer and the second monomer containing a compatible monomer that is compatible with the fluorine-containing monomer and being dissolved in the lower layer resin and the upper layer resin.
