Aqueous functional composition for articles
An aqueous non-foamed functional composition formulation is disposed on a foamed opacifying layer in light-blocking, foamed opacifying elements. This non-foamed functional composition formulation has 0.5-15% solids and essential (i) and (iv) components and optional (ii), (v), (vi), and (vii) components. The components (i) untreated synthetic silica (fumed silica or precipitated silica) at 0.5-10 weight %; and a (iv) water-soluble or water-dispersible organic polymeric binder having a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) below 25? C. The weight ratio of the (i) untreated synthetic silica to the (iv) water-soluble or water-dispersible organic polymeric binder is 10:1 to 1:1. The optional components include: a (ii) solid or non-solid lubricant; a (v) crosslinking agent; a (vi) thickener; and a (vii) coating aid. Glass particles can also be present. The presence of the (i) untreated synthetic silica provides improved brightness, e.g. an L* value of at least 80, and uniform coatings in the resulting, foamed opacifying element.
COATING FILM AND COMPONENT PART
A coating film includes a water-repellent resin having a smooth surface and a contact angle of 70 degrees or more. The coating film has a plurality of protrusions formed by the water-repellent resin, and the plurality of protrusions are scattered in the coating film and each have an end portion with a convex surface formed by cutting out a continuous region accounting for 50% or more of a spherical surface. The spherical surfaces each have an average radius of curvature of 16 ?m or less. An average distance between each ones of the plurality of protrusions adjacent to each other is less than or equal to 30 times a radius of curvature.
AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITION
The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition. The aqueous coating composition comprises (a) a polymer A comprising units derived from an alpha-olefin and one or more comonomers selected from the group of methacrylates, acrylates, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, maleates, maleic acid, maleic anhydride, and salts thereof; (b) a polymer B comprising units derived from one or more monomers selected from the group of methacrylates, acrylates, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, maleates, maleic acid, maleic anhydride, and salts thereof; (c) a calcium carbonate-containing material in an amount in the range of 0.1 to below 20 wt. %, based on the total dry weight of the coating composition; and (d) optionally a wax. Furthermore, the invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous coating composition according to invention, and to a coated article.
COATING COMPOSITION COMPRISING A SUSTAINABLE PIGMENT AND METHOD OF COATING A SUBSTRATE USING THE SAME
Described herein is an aqueous coating composition including at least one binder, at least one sustainable pigment selected from recycled carbon black or coffee grounds or tea, at least one solvent and optionally at least one crosslinking agent and/or at least one additive. The use of the sustainable pigments in the aqueous coating results in colored coatings on substrates, such as flexible foam substrates, having a high optical quality as well as good mechanical properties. Also described herein is a process for producing the aqueous coating composition and a method for coating a substate using the aqueous coating composition. Finally, described herein is a substrate bearing a coating produced by the method.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CREATING DURABLE LUBRICIOUS SURFACES VIA INTERFACIAL MODIFICATION
Embodiments described herein relate generally to systems and methods for creating durable lubricious surfaces (DLS) via interfacial modification. The DLS can be prepared via a combination of a solid, a liquid, and an additive that modifies the interface between the DLS and a contact liquid, resulting in an interfacial layer that acts as a lubricant and/or protective coating between the DLS and the contact liquid. The lubricating effect created between the additive and the contact liquid results in enhanced slipperiness, as well as the protective properties that can help with durability of the DLS.
Pelletized Thermoplastic Pavement Marking Compositions Using Glass Dust Filler
A pelletized thermoplastic road marking material is provided in which glass dust rather than calcium carbonate is used as the filler. Such glass dust can account for up to 55 weight % of the final formulation. Glass dust is a readily available and inexpensive byproduct of glass manufacturing which otherwise has little or no commercial value. Use of the glass dust is effective if the thermoplastic composition is prepared in pelletized form and performs comparably to a thermoplastic composition having calcium carbonate filler, while producing a higher yield.
Coated metal plate and exterior building material
This coated metal plate is a chromate-free coated metal plate for exterior applications, which comprises a metal plate and a coating film that is arranged on the metal plate. The coating film contains 0.2-15 vol % of porous particles as a gloss control agent, and contains 0.2-15 vol % of primary particles as a matting agent. If R1 (m) is the number average particle diameter of the gloss control agent, R2 (m) is the number average particle diameter of the matting agent, T (m) is the film thickness of the coating film, 1 (m) is the standard deviation of the number-based particle size distribution of the gloss control agent and 2 (m) is the standard deviation of the number-based particle size distribution of the matting agent, the coated metal plate satisfies the following formulae.
(R1+21)/T0.7
R12.0
2.0(R2+22)/T7.0
13T20.
Porous Silicon Oxide Beads for Use As Drying Agents for Waterborne Latex Paint Compositions
A highway marking paint is provided formed from a waterborne latex paint and porous silica beads having a pore volume in the range of 0.3 cc/g to 3.0 cc/g. The silica beads enable the paint to achieve sufficient viscosity to permit the application of a highway marking of at least 40 mil and preferably at least 120 mil. The highway marking paint can also include retroreflective glass beads. Optionally, the highway marking paint further includes an acrylic polymer emulsion. The porous silica in bead form enhances the flowability of the porous silica beads and retroreflective beads.
