The invention aims to provide a crosslinked polymer having excellent moisture retention properties, an excellent ethanol absorption capacity, excellent adhesiveness to the skin when applied to the skin as a cosmetic, and a high concentration of an effective component. The invention relates to a N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer including: a structural unit derived from a N-vinyl lactam; and a structural unit derived from a crosslinking agent, the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer having an ethanol absorption capacity of 3 to 40 g per 1 g of the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer, the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer containing a particle having an aspect ratio determined by the following method of 1.15 to 10 in a proportion of 10% to 100% (by number) of the total number of the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer and having a proportion of an extractable of 35 mass % or less in 100 mass % of the entire polymer, the method being “method of measuring aspect ratio” in which the aspect ratio is determined as a value obtained by measuring the major and minor axes of a primary particle of the N-vinyl lactam-based cross-linked polymer with an optical or electron microscope and dividing the major axis by the minor axis.

Continuous roll-to-roll fabrication of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) coatings

The present application relates to a novel method of large scale continuous roll-to-roll fabrication of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) coatings with controlled anisotropy, and the cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) coated flexible substrate prepared with the novel method. An unexpectedly high order parameter of 0.78 is observed when in CNC-PVA composite at 70% CNC loading.

Water-based ink for ink-jet recording

The present invention relates to [1] a water-based ink for ink-jet printing which can be prevented from suffering from increased viscosity and flocculation of the ink upon storage thereof even when used in the form of a system containing a large amount of a solvent, said water-based ink for ink-jet printing containing crosslinked polymer particles containing a pigment having an indanthrone skeleton, an organic solvent and water, in which a crosslinking rate of the crosslinked polymer is not less than 10 mol % and not more than 90 mol %, and a content of the organic solvent in the water-based ink is not less than 30% by mass and not more than 65% by mass, and [2] an ink-jet printing method including the steps of loading the water-based ink as described in the above [1] to an ink-jet printing apparatus, and ejecting the water-based ink in the form of droplets of the ink onto a printing medium to form characters or images on the printing medium.

POLYMODAL POLYMER COMPOSITIONS FOR COATING APPLICATIONS

The present invention relates to a polymodal polymer composition having homogeneous as well as heterogeneous particles formed by radical emulsion polymerization of monomers from category A which forms homopolymers with Tg above 15° C. and monomers from category B which forms homopolymers with Tg below −15° C. The polymer composition is composed of at least two different populations of particles, differing in mean particle size value by at least a factor of 2. Thus, the two different populations of polymer particles in the polymer composition differ with respect to size and monomer composition of the particles.
