Described herein are methods, and compositions for use in the coloration of materials. The compositions described herein are black pigments derived primarily from recently-living plants or animals and are therefore renewable.

An aqueous inkjet ink composition including a pigment, an alkali-soluble resin, a surfactant, a water-soluble solvent, and water. The water-soluble solvent contains a solvent A having a boiling point of 100 C. or more and 200 C. or less at 1 atm and 4 or less carbon atoms and 2 or more hydroxy groups in a molecule, and a solvent B having a boiling point of 100 C. or more and 200 C. or less at 1 atm and 4 or more and 10 or less carbon atoms, 1 or less hydroxy groups, and 1 or more methoxy groups in a molecule, and the aqueous inkjet ink composition has a total percentage of the solvent a and the solvent b of 20% by mass or more and 50% by mass or less. The aqueous inkjet ink composition has good storage stability, ejection stability, and drying property of the coating film.

Provided is an ink composition for ultraviolet-curable inkjet printing comprising polymerization components, a resin component, and a photopolymerization initiator, wherein the polymerization components include (A) a polyfunctional amine-modified oligomer, (B) a nitrogen-containing monomer, (C) an aromatic ring-containing monomer, and (D) a polyfunctional monomer, wherein the resin component includes a hydroxyl group-containing resin, wherein (A) comprises an acrylated amine compound having two photopolymerizable functional groups and two amino groups in a molecule, wherein (B) comprises vinyl caprolactam, wherein (C) comprises benzyl acrylate and phenoxyethyl acrylate, wherein (D) comprises at least one of propoxylated neopentyl glycol diacrylate, dipropylene glycol diacrylate, or 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate, wherein a content of (A) is 0.1 to 13.0% by mass, wherein a content of (C) is 35.0 to 75.0% by mass, wherein a content of (D) is 2.0 to 16.0% by mass, and wherein the hydroxyl group-containing resin includes a ketone resin having a hydroxyl group.

A water-based ink includes a pigment, an amino acid having an alkylene group with three or more carbon atoms and having amino groups on a side chain thereof, a surfactant and/or a penetrating agent, and water. The surfactant includes an acetylene based surfactant. The penetrating agent includes an alkylene diol, a glycol ether compound, or both. An amount of the amino acid in the water-based ink relative to a total mass of the water-based ink is from 0.05 to 1 mass %. The amino acid is preferably arginine, lysine, or both. The water-based ink preferably further includes two or more wetting agents.

A water-based ink includes a pigment, an amino acid having an alkylene group with three or more carbon atoms and having amino groups on a side chain thereof, a surfactant and/or a penetrating agent, and water. The surfactant includes an acetylene based surfactant. The penetrating agent includes an alkylene diol, a glycol ether compound, or both. An amount of the amino acid in the water-based ink relative to a total mass of the water-based ink is from 0.05 to 1 mass %. The amino acid is preferably arginine, lysine, or both. The water-based ink preferably further includes two or more wetting agents.
