STRESS-RESISTANT EXTRUDATES
Compositions and articles comprising a stress and crack resistant component comprising a thermoplastic component and an elongation component. In some examples, the invention is directed to a stress and crack resistant component comprising a thermoplastic component, an elongation modifier component and an elongation temperer; in preferred examples the thermoplastic component comprises a polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified (PETG) copolyester, the elongation modifier component comprises a halogenated polyolefin having a heat of fusion of 1 J/g or less, and the elongation temperer comprises a poly(styrene acrylonitrile) (SAN).
In preferred examples the stress-resistant component is comprised as an coating component covering at least one surface of a substrate, such as one comprising a medium density fiberboard (MDF), a particle board, an oriented strand board, fiberglass, a natural wood, a composite wood product, and a synthetic substrate. The stress-resistant component is preferably, though not invariably, produced by extrusion. The invention is also directed to articles, such as extrusion profiles, comprising the stress-resistant component, and methods of making such articles.

THIN FILM SELF ASSEMBLY OF TOPCOAT-FREE SILICON-CONTAINING DIBLOCK COPOLYMERS
A high-chi diblock copolymer (BCP) for self-assembly comprises a first block comprising repeat units of trimethylsilyl styrene (TMSS) and styrene, and a second block comprising an aliphatic carbonate repeat unit. The blocks are linked together by a fluorinated junction group L′ in which none of the fluorines of L′ are covalently bound to an atomic center of the polymer backbone. A top-coat free film layer comprising the BCP, which is disposed on an underlayer and in contact with an atmosphere, is capable of forming a perpendicularly oriented lamellar domain pattern on an underlayer that is preferential or non-preferential to the domains of the block copolymer. The domain pattern can be selectively etched to provide a relief pattern comprising a remaining domain. The relief pattern having good critical dimensional uniformity compared to an otherwise identical polymer lacking the silicon.
Modification method of surface of base, composition, and polymer
A modification method of a surface of a base includes applying a composition on a surface layer of a base to form a coating film. The surface layer contains a metal atom. The coating is heated. The composition contains a polymer and a solvent. The polymer includes at an end of a main chain or at an end of a side chain thereof, a functional group that is at least one selected from: a group represented by the following formula (1); a group containing a carbon-carbon triple bond; and a group containing an aromatic hydroxy group. In the formula (1), R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and n is an integer of 1 to 10, wherein in a case in which n is no less than 2, a plurality of R.sup.1s are identical or different. ##STR00001##
