In general, radiation shielding systems that shield radiation from multiple directions are described. In one embodiment, a method of shielding radiation is provided, including supporting a shielding device on an object proximate a radiation source, positioning a first shielding portion in a vertical position relative to the object, positioning a second shielding portion to extend away from the first portion, the second shielding portion attached to the first portion, and shielding radiation from the radiation source by the first shielding portion and the second shielding portion such that the first and second shielding portions provide a radiation shielding zone for a healthcare practitioner.

RADIATION PROTECTION APPARATUS
20230210479 · 2023-07-06 · ·

A radiation protection apparatus of a medical X-ray imaging system for absorbing scattered X-rays emerging from an examination region, wherein the radiation protection apparatus comprises: a plurality of lead glass elements, wherein each of the plurality of lead glass elements is configured to move between a rest position and a shield position, and also relative to one another. In the shield position, the plurality of lead glass elements form a radiation shield arranged between the examination region and a region occupiable by medical staff.

Systems and methods for digital x-ray imaging

X-ray detectors for generating digital images are disclosed. An example digital X-ray detector includes: a scintillation screen; a reflector configured to reflect light generated by the scintillation screen; and a digital imaging sensor configured to generate a digital image of the light reflected by the reflector.

Medical devices for diagnostic imaging

A medical imaging system for detecting ionizing radiation. The system includes one or more pixilated imagers positioned to acquire patient image data and one or more position sensors positioned to acquire patient position data. Once the patient image data and patient position data are acquired, one or more processors operably connected to each of the one or more pixilated imagers and one or more position sensors calculate a three-dimensional mass distribution based on patient image data and patient position data.

Self-shielded x-ray computed tomography system

A system for breast computed tomography includes a table supporting a patient in a prone position with an opening positioned for a breast of the patient to extend downwards therethrough, a gantry assembly positioned beneath the table with a platform driven to rotate by a motor, an x-ray source assembly coupled to the platform to rotate therewith and positioned to irradiate with an x-ray beam at least a portion of the breast, and a detector assembly coupled to the platform to rotate therewith and positioned to receive the x-ray beam from the x-ray source assembly. The system includes a shielding enclosure rigidly mounted atop the platform to rotate therewith, enclosing during rotation of the platform the detector assembly, the breast, and the x-ray beam, and having walls composed of a material and a thickness to attenuate an x-ray beam of a predetermined energy and intensity by a predetermined amount.

RADIATION IMAGING SYSTEM AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

A radiation imaging system comprises a sensor unit of a radiation imaging device, detecting an incident radiation R irradiated from a radiation generator; an arithmetic unit calculating an accumulated dose of the radiation detected by the sensor unit; and an imaging control unit outputting an irradiation stop signal for stopping the irradiation of the radiation R to the radiation generator when the accumulated dose reaches a threshold or more, wherein the imaging control unit sets the threshold based on a dose rate of the radiation R determined based on a relationship between the accumulated dose and a time, and a delay time from a time of outputting the irradiation stop signal to a time of stopping the irradiation of the radiation of the radiation generator.

Patient positioning apparatus

Disclosed is a patient positioning assembly for orientating a patient with respect to a radiation source. The patient positioning assembly includes a translatable member movable in a vertical direction between a vertically downwards first position and a vertically upwards second position. The patient positioning assembly further includes a patient support assembly mounted to the translatable member and adapted to rotate relative to the translatable member about a vertical axis. The patient support assembly is configurable between a first orientation, which sustains the patient in a seated position, and a second orientation, which sustains the patient in a generally standing position.

Methods and systems for manufacturing composite radiation shielding parts

Various methods and systems are provided for manufacturing a radiation shielding component of an imaging apparatus. In one embodiment, the radiation shielding component may be manufactured by infiltrating metal particles with a binder solution and then curing the binder solution impregnated with the metal particles. In another embodiment, the radiation shielding component may be printed with metal powder, infiltrated with a binding agent, and then cured to polymerize the binding agent.

Computed tomography device with a radiation protection apparatus for covering the tunnel-shaped opening

A computed tomography device includes, in an embodiment, a gantry including a tunnel-shaped opening, an examination object being introducible into the tunnel-shaped opening for an examination via the computed tomography device; and a radiation protection apparatus to cover the tunnel-shaped opening, the radiation protection apparatus including a first connector and the gantry includes a second connector. In an embodiment, a detachable connection is formable via the first connector and the second connector, to counteract removal of the radiation protection apparatus from the tunnel-shaped opening.
