LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION HAVING GOOD PHOTOSTABILITY AND THERMOSTABILITY, AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT

A liquid crystal composition having good photostability and thermostability. The liquid crystal composition comprises: 5-30% of one or more compounds of general formula I based on the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; 1-30% of one or more compounds of general formula II based on the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; 1-30% of one or more compounds of general formula III based on the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; 1-20% of one or more compounds of general formula IV-1 and/or general formula IV-2 based on the total weight of the liquid crystal composition; and 15-50% of one or more compounds of general formula V based on the total weight of the liquid crystal composition. A liquid crystal display element containing the liquid crystal composition is also provided.

Provided are a liquid crystal composition satisfying at least one of characteristics such as high maximum temperature, low minimum temperature, small viscosity, suitable optical anisotropy and large negative dielectric anisotropy, or having a suitable balance regarding at least two of the characteristics; and an AM device including the composition. The liquid crystal composition contains a specific compound having large negative dielectric anisotropy as a first component, and a specific compound having small viscosity as a second component, and may contain a specific compound having high maximum temperature or small viscosity as a third component, a specific compound having negative dielectric anisotropy as a fourth component, or a specific compound having a polymerizable group as an additive component.

The warm-up process of the conventional OCB mode is omitted to achieve quick response.
