Polished turbine fuel
11015134 · 2021-05-25 · ·

Turbine fuel provided for large-scale land based turbines used by utilities for producing electricity and desalinated water, and for large mobile engines and turbines in marine and remote applications where only liquid fuels are available. Use results in less corrosion, ash formation and emissions (NOx, SOx, CO2 and noxious metals) than firing contaminated heavy crude, refinery residual oils or high sulfur fuel oils. Manufacture is by decontaminating crude oils, non-conventional crudes, and other highly contaminated feeds. Each fuel is produced as a single product of unit operations, not ex-plant blend of various refinery products, yet using an apparatus configuration less complex than conventional crude oil refining. These fuels can be fired by advanced high efficiency turbines of combined cycle power plants having hot flow paths and heat recovery steam generation systems susceptible to corrosion, which systems cannot otherwise risk contaminated heavy crudes or refinery residual oils feeds.

Biological buffers with wide buffering ranges

Amines and amine derivatives that improve the buffering range, and/or reduce the chelation and other negative interactions of the buffer and the system to be buffered. The reaction of amines or polyamines with various molecules to form polyamines with differing pKa's will extend the buffering range, derivatives that result in polyamines that have the same pKa yields a greater buffering capacity. Derivatives that result in zwitterionic buffers improve yield by allowing a greater range of stability.

Chemical probes for hydrogen sulfide

Chemical probes and methods for detecting and/or quantifying hydrogen sulfide are disclosed. More particularly, this application discloses chemical probes and methods for their use for detecting and/or quantifying hydrogen sulfide in industrial and environmental samples and effluents, including samples of crude oil and sour water produced by petrochemical and other industrial processes.

Asphaltene Solvation and Dispersion Process

The capacity of a crude oil to solvate and/or disperse asphaltenes is increased by providing a crude oil which includes an additive comprising (i) a poly(butylenyl)bezene sulphonic acid; or, (ii) a poly(propylenyl)benzene sulphonic acid; or, (iii) a combination of a poly(butylenyl)bezene sulphonic acid and a poly(propylenyl)benzene sulphonic acid.

Lubricity additive for transportation fuels

Oxidized disulfide oil (ODSO) compounds, derived from by-product disulfide oil (DSO) compounds from the MEROX process, are effective as lubricity additives for transportation fuels. Significant increases in lubricity of ultra-low sulfur fuels as measured by the WSD test were observed with addition of ODSO compounds in the range of from 0.1 ppmw to 10 ppmw. This use of ODSO compounds as lubricity additives converts an otherwise DSO waste oil product into a valuable commodity that has utility in improving lubricity properties of transportation fuels.

AQUEOUS EMULSIFIER PACKAGE WITH ANIONIC SURFACTANT FOR FUEL EMULSION

A method for powering a diesel engine with a fuel emulsion involves preparing the fuel emulsion by emulsifying a fuel and water in the presence of an emulsifier package, which contains an anionic surfactant selected from sulfates and sulfonates. The emulsifier package for emulsifying a fuel and water and the fuel emulsion for powering a diesel engine are also provided.
