Low viscosity gear oil compositions for electric and hybrid vehicles

This disclosure relates to a lubricating oil (e.g., gear oil) for use in an electric or hybrid vehicle. The lubricating oil has a composition including one or more lubricating oil base stocks as a major component, and one or more lubricating oil additives, as a minor component. The one or more lubricating oil base stocks include at least one Group IV base oil, or at least one Group V base oil. The lubricating oil has a kinematic viscosity (KV.sub.100) from 1 cSt to 7 cSt at 100° C. as determined by ASTM D-445, and an electrical conductivity at room temperature of less than 15,000 pS/m as determined by ASTM D-2624. This disclosure also relates to methods for producing a lubricating oil for a transmission, gear train, gear set, gear box, or gears of an electric vehicle powertrain and methods for improving energy efficiency, while maintaining or improving wear control.

The present disclosure provides a drag reducing agent. In an embodiment, the drag reducing agent includes a polymer and a liquid carrier. The polymer is composed of one or more C.sub.6-C.sub.14 α-olefin monomers. The polymer includes a residual amount of zirconium. The polymer has an absolute weight average molecular weight (Mw.sub.(Abs)) greater than 1,300,000 g/mol and a (Mw.sub.(Abs)/Mn.sub.(Abs) from 1.3 to 3.0.

The present invention relates to a metallocene compound, and preparation and use thereof, and the compound can be used as a catalyst for synthesis of poly-α-olefin as lubricating base oil. The metallocene compound includes a substituted aryl group, a bridged atom, an optionally unsubstituted, 3-mono-substituted or 3,6-disubstituted 5H-indeno [1,2-b] pyridyl group or optionally unsubstituted, 3-mono-substituted or 3,6-disubstituted 5H-indeno [1,2-b] thiopyranyl group, and a metal coordination group. As a catalyst, the metallocene compound is shown to be structurally stable and high in catalytic efficiency, and the preparation of the catalyst is relatively easy in operation, high in yield, low in cost, low in pollution and easy to scale up for industrial production.

A lubricating oil composition including a base oil (A) containing an olefin-based polymer (A1), a viscosity index improver (B), and an imide-based dispersant (C), in which a first olefin-based polymer (A1-1) having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 3.0 mm.sup.2/s or more is contained as the olefin-based polymer (A1), a second olefin-based polymer (A1-2) having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of less than 3.0 mm.sup.2/s is not contained as the olefin-based polymer (A1), a content of a resin component (B1) derived from the viscosity index improver (B) is 0.01% by mass or more based on a total amount of the lubricant composition, and a content of nitrogen atoms derived from the imide-based dispersant (C) is 0.06% by mass or more based on the total amount of the lubricant composition.

NON-NEWTONIAN ENGINE OIL LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS FOR SUPERIOR FUEL ECONOMY

Provided is an engine oil lubricant composition with improved fuel efficiency. The engine oil lubricant composition may include: a polyalpha olefin base oil component an amount of about 50 wt % to about 90 wt % based on a total weight of the engine oil lubricant composition, wherein the polyalpha olefin base oil component is a Group IV base oil and has a Noack volatility of about 12.5% to about 15%; a Group II base oil component in an amount of about 0.1 wt % to about 50 wt % based on the total weight of the engine oil lubricant composition. The engine oil lubricant composition may have (i) a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of about 10 cSt or less, (ii) a high temperature high shear viscosity at 150° C. of about 2.2 cP or less, and (iii) a Noack volatility of about 20% or less.
