Process for coating a threaded tubular component, threaded tubular component and resulting connection
The invention concerns a threaded tubular component for drilling or working hydrocarbon wells, said tubular component having at one of its ends (1; 2) a threaded zone (3; 4) produced on its outer or inner peripheral surface depending on whether the threaded end is male or female in type, in which at least a portion of the end (1; 2) is coated with at least one film of polyurethane (12), 100% solid state, with an essentially rigid structure, based on a matrix of polyurethane and polyurea, in which the urethane functionality is predominant with respect to the urea functionality in a proportion of at least 55% by weight.
Coating composition, method of making a hydrophilic coating on a substrate, and medical device comprising such coating
The disclosure relates to a coating composition comprising a polymerizable compound of formula [1], wherein G is a residue of a hydrophobic hydroxy-functional oligomer, n is 1-10, each R1 independently is a residue of a C.sub.6-C.sub.20 aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, or aromatic hydrocarbon compound, and Z is a moiety having a polymerizable group; Formula [1] a hydrophilic polymer; a photo-initiator; optionally one or more further components, and a solvent. The polymerizable compound of formula [1] is typically present in an amount of 2.0-30 mass % based on total dry mass of the composition. Such coating composition can be made into a well-adhering single-layer hydrophilic coating on a surface of polymer substrates without providing a primer layer or chemically modifying the surface of the substrate. Upon wetting, the coating shows excellent lubricity and durability. In further aspects, the disclosure provides a method of applying a hydrophilic and optionally lubricious coating to an article; and an article like a medical device having on at least part of its surface a single-layer, hydrophilic and optionally lubricious coating, like a catheter, guidewire, or a delivery device for an implant. ##STR00001##
Self-lubricating medical articles
Medical articles formed from a polyurethane-based resin including a modifying oligomer provide enhanced properties. A modifying oligomer incorporated into a backbone, as a side chain, or both of the polyurethane-based resin formed by a diisocyanate, a polyglycol, and a diol chain extender has at least one, preferably two, alcohol moieties (COH) and a functional moiety. Exemplary modifying oligomers are: a diol-containing perfluoropolyether incorporated into the backbone, a monofunctional polysiloxane (e.g., monodialcohol-terminated polydimethylsiloxane) incorporated as the side chain, and combinations thereof. Medical articles herein are self-lubricating and/or anti-fouling.
PROCESS FOR PREPARING A COATING
A process for preparing a coating on at least part of a tribological surface of a first machine component which, during machine operation, is adapted to be in sliding contact with a tribological surface of a second machine component is provided. The process provides the steps of: (a) applying a polymer formulation onto at least part of the tribological surface of the first machine component to form a coating. The polymer formulation provides an isocyanate that contains two or more isocyanate groups per molecule and an idocyanate-reactive polyol to form polyurethanes; and (b) subjecting at least part of the coating as obtained in step (a) to a curing treatment during which polyurethanes are formed in the coating on the at least part of the tribological surface of the first machine component.
Lubricious thermoplastic compounds and thermoplastic articles made therefrom
Lubricious thermoplastic articles are formed from thermoplastic compounds including (a) thermoplastic elastomer selected from thermoplastic polyurethane, polyether block amide, and combinations thereof; and (b) from about 5 to about 20 weight percent, by weight of the compound, of hydrophilic water-insoluble polymer selected from polyolefin-polyoxyalkylene block copolymer, crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone, and combinations thereof. The thermoplastic compounds are capable of providing enhanced lubricity in the thermoplastic articles without significant degradation in mechanical properties such as elongation and tensile strength, as compared to thermoplastic articles formed from the neat thermoplastic elastomer and subjected to the same heat processing history.
