Composition containing heterocyclic compounds and a method of lubricating an internal combustion engine
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) a compound selected from the group consisting of: (i) an ester-containing heterocycle; (ii) an amide-containing heterocycle; and (iii) a pyrimidine, wherein the ester-containing heterocycle and the amide-containing heterocycle have a hydrocarbyl group containing 6 to 40 carbon atoms. The invention further provides for a method of supplying an internal combustion engine with the lubricating composition.
PRODUCTION OF CYLINDER OIL
Disclosed is a method for producing one or more cylinder oils of varying kinematic viscosity for a marine reciprocating internal combustion engine. The method comprises providing a first fluid having a first kinematic viscosity and a first BN, providing a second fluid having a second kinematic viscosity and a second BN, the second kinematic viscosity different from the first kinematic viscosity, and blending the first fluid and the second fluid in a first ratio to produce a first cylinder oil having a kinematic viscosity equal to or less than 14 mm.sup.2/s at 100 C.
Thioether-containing phenolic compounds
Thioether-substituted phenols that are the reaction product of a thioether-substituted alcohol or thioether-substituted amine and a phenol with at least one pendant acyl group and have a ratio of sulfur groups to phenol groups of at least 1:1 and uses for thioether-substituted phenols. Methods of lubricating an internal combustion engine by contacting the internal combustion engine with a lubricating composition comprising a thioether-substituted phenol. Methods of reducing deposit formation and/or corrosion in an engine using a lubricating composition comprising a thioether-substituted phenol.
Lubricant additive composition suitable for lubricating two-stroke engines fueled with heavy fuels
A lubricant suitable for lubricating a two-stroke cycle engine which is fueled with a liquid fuel having a volatility less than that of gasoline comprises an oleaginous synthetic ester, a normally liquid solvent having a kinematic viscosity of less than about 5 or 2 mm.sup.2/s at 100 C. and a nitrogen-containing dispersant bearing a hydrocarbyl group of at least 26 carbon atoms and having a nitrogen content of at least 4 percent by weight. The nitrogen content of the lubricant is at least about 0.3 percent by weight.
Aliphatic tetrahedral borate compounds for fully formulated lubricating compositions
A fully-formulating lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity; an ionic tetrahedral borate compound including a tetrahedral borate anion having a boron atom with two bidentate di-oxo ligands both being a linear C18-tartrimide; a first dispersant comprising a conventional ammonium substituted polyisobutenyl succinimide compound having a polyisobutenyl number average molecular weight of 750 to 2,500; a second dispersant comprising an ammonium substituted polyisobutenyl succinimde compound having an N:CO ratio of 1.8 and a polyisobutylenyl number average molecular weight of 750 to 2,500, wherein one or more of the first dispersant and the second dispersant are in cationic form. The fully formulated lubricating composition including one or more performance additives.
USE OF ESTERS IN A LUBRICANT COMPOSITION FOR IMPROVING CLEANLINESS OF AN ENGINE
The present application relates to the use, in a lubricant composition comprising at least one base oil, of 2 to 12% by weight, relative to the weight of said lubricant composition, of an ester that has a viscosity at 100 C. of between 200 and 1000 cSt, for the purpose of improving the cleanliness of an engine.
Marine diesel lubricating composition
The invention provides a method of lubricating a 2-stroke marine diesel cylinder liner with a lubricating composition having a total base number of 10 to 25 mg KOH/g. The invention further provides a lubricating composition for lubricating the 2-stroke marine diesel cylinder liner.
Use of a fatty amine for preventing and/or reducing the metal losses of the parts in an engine
One or more fatty amines are soluble in a lubricating composition for preventing and/or reducing the metal losses of the parts of an engine, such as a marine engine. The parts are brought into contact with the lubricating composition in order to prevent or reduce the metal losses.
