A system for controlling an operation of a residue removal device of a seed-planting implement. The system may include a residue removal device configured to remove residue from a path of the seed-planting implement. The system may also include a furrow closing assembly including at least one closing disc, which is configured to close a furrow formed in the soil by the seed-planting implement. Furthermore, the system may include a sensor configured to capture data indicative of an operational parameter of the furrow closing assembly and a controller communicatively coupled to the sensor. The controller may be configured to monitor the operational parameter based on the data received from the sensor, and to control an operation of the residue removal device based on the monitored operational parameter.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE OPERATION OF A RESIDUE REMOVAL DEVICE OF A SEED-PLANTING IMPLEMENT BASED ON A RESIDUE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE FIELD

In one aspect, a system for controlling the operation of a residue removal device of a seed-planting implement may include a residue removal device configured to remove residue from a path of the seed-planting implement. The system may also include a sensor configured to capture data indicative of a residue characteristic associated with a portion of the field within a detection zone positioned forward of the residue removal device relative to a direction of travel of the seed-planting implement. Furthermore, the system may include a controller communicatively coupled to the sensor. As such, the controller may be configured to monitor the residue characteristic associated with the portion of the field within the detection zone based on data received from the sensor. Additionally, the controller may be further configured to control the operation of the residue removal device based on the monitored residue characteristic.

A residue clearing apparatus for a seeding implement includes a plurality of ground driven residue wheel pairs, each movably and rotatably mounted to the seeding implement with right and left residue wheels on corresponding right and left sides of one of the shanks such that each residue wheel pair moves vertically independent of the shanks. Residue contact members connected to each residue wheel engage the ground surface adjacent to one of the shanks to rotate the residue wheel. Outer ends of the residue contact members pass forward of the shank above the furrow opener. A raising system operative to raise the residue wheel pairs to a wheel transport position.

An agricultural row unit assembly employs a pair of tine assemblies and a seedbed cultivator for soil preparation to enhance opportune planting.

Residue management tool for seeders

A residue management tool mountable to a frame of a seeder for cutting or clearing residue on the ground is provided, comprising a pivotable arm having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end of the pivotable arm adapted to be directly or indirectly pivotally attached to the frame; a rotatable cutting or clearing device operably mounted to the distal end of the pivotable arm and operative to cut or clear the residue on the ground; a biasing device operative to exert a downward bias force on the pivotable arm to engage the rotatable cutting or clearing device with the ground; and a depth restraint operative to prevent the rotatable cutting or clearing device from over-penetrating the ground.

Work layer imaging and analysis for implement monitoring, control and operator feedback

A soil imaging system having a work layer sensor disposed on an agricultural implement to generate an electromagnetic field through a soil area of interest as the agricultural implement traverses a field. A monitor in communication with the work layer sensor is adapted to generate a work layer image of the soil layer of interest based on the generated electromagnetic field. The work layer sensor may also generate a reference image by generating an electromagnetic field through undisturbed soil. The monitor may compare at least one characteristic of the reference image with at least one characteristic of the work layer image to generate a characterized image of the work layer of interest. The monitor may display operator feedback and may affect operational control of the agricultural implement based on the characterized image.

METHODS OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION OF BRASSICA CARINATA OILSEED CROP

The present invention relates to agricultural practices for maximizing carbon sequestration, enhanced productivity, sustainable farming and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. In one embodiment, there is provided a method comprising: planting a Brassica carinata variety as a second crop in rotation with a first crop or to replace fallow; implementing land management practices to reduce the use of fossil fuel inputs and to maximize the capture of atmospheric carbon by the plant material of Brassica carinata; harvesting of the Brassica carinata variety to obtain the grain; and returning about 70% to about 90% of all plant material from the Brassica carinata variety aside from the grain to the soil. As a result, the overall greenhouse gas emissions associated with agriculture are reduced. In some embodiments, the method further comprises producing grain for use in the production of a plant-based feedstock for producing low carbon intensity fuels; for adding carbon in soil; and/or acquiring a carbon credit.

Opener attachment for an agricultural row unit

An opener attachment for an agricultural row unit including a frame, an arm pivotally coupled to the frame, an opener disc coupled to the arm and configured to excavate a trench into soil, and a gauge wheel coupled to the arm and configured to block movement of the opener disc into the soil to control a depth of the trench. The opener attachment also includes a mechanical stop coupled to the frame and configured to block the gauge wheel and the opener disc moving toward the soil. In addition, the opener attachment includes an air bag configured to urge the gauge wheel and the opener disc toward the soil.
