METHOD OF USING AN ELECTROCHEMICAL DEVICE
A method of using an electrochemical device includes at least first and second electrodes; a chamber for receiving a fluid sample and defining a volume partially bounded by a first portion of the first electrode and a second portion of the second electrode, the first portion having a first characteristic for influencing an electrochemical reaction at the first portion, the second portion having a second characteristic for influencing an electrochemical reaction at the second portion, the first and second characteristics having a predetermined relationship. The method also includes receiving a fluid sample in the chamber; measuring first and second electrical outputs at least one of the first and second electrodes; and determining whether the first and second electrical outputs are related according to the predetermined relationship.

Described are devices and methods that that include at least one sweat stimulating and collecting material, which can be a sweat stimulating and collecting iontophoresis material. In methods of stimulating and collecting sweat, the method may include (1) stimulating the production of sweat in a subject by delivering at least one sweat-stimulating substance out of a material and into contact with the skin of a subject, and (2) collecting at least a portion of the sweat in the material. Methods in accordance with principles of the present invention can also include transferring the material to a container, removing the material, and analyzing the sweat captured therein.

Device and system for monitoring operator biometric condition and blood alcohol presence to prevent driving of a vehicle by an alcohol or otherwise impaired operator
A new system monitors ethanol alcohol levels of a vehicle operator by collecting sweat from the operator's hands, and detecting the presence, if any, of ethanol in the sweat. The system can then be used, if ethanol is present, to take action, such as immobile vehicle disablement, in the event of intoxication caused by an impermissibly high levels of ethanol of the operator. The system includes devices, referred to as pods in the description, which are sweat-collecting devices that are attached to the steering wheel of the vehicle. If the measurable ethanol in collected moisture from the operator's hands exceeds a preset threshold, the system could be configured to warn the operator to park the vehicle thereafter to disable operation of the vehicle, but if the operator does not so discontinue operation of the vehicle hazard warning lights and audible warnings within and without the vehicle will be activated alerting near vehicles of a dangerous vehicle being operated in close proximity. Likewise the new system monitors for pulse rate and oxygen levels of the operator can be used to recommend operator action when the pulse rate and/or oxygen levels are outside of the normal range for an operator. When the pulse rate and or oxygen levels of the system are outside of the normal parameters for an operator, the system will warn the operator to park the vehicle and thereafter to disable operation of the immobile vehicle, but if the operator does not so discontinue operation of the vehicle the hazard warning lights, on board video, and audible warnings within and without the vehicle will be activated alerting near vehicles of a dangerous vehicle being operated in close proximity, and alarms will be sent to real time recording and monitoring devices.
WEARABLE SWEAT SENSOR FOR HEALTH EVENT DETECTION
A wearable medical device for collecting a biofluid and related methods are disclosed. The device has a patch adapted to removably couple to a user's skin. The patch has at least one flow channel, at least one sample chamber, and at least one biomarker detection chamber. The flow channel and/or the sample chamber conducts the biofluid towards the biomarker detection chamber. The sample chamber is adapted to create a high humidity environment adjacent the user's skin. The flow channel comprises a hydrophobic material and a hydrophilic material.
MEDICAL BODILY FLUID SAMPLING DEVICE
Embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to apparatuses for sampling bodily fluids and methods of fabrication thereof. The apparatus includes at least one adhesive patch, at least one bodily fluid port attached to the adhesive patch, and at least one bodily fluid storing capillary connected to the bodily fluid port and attached to the adhesive patch. The adhesive patch may be adhered to a subject's skin, the input port may then be connected to a source of bodily fluids and the one or more bodily fluid storing capillaries function to draw in the bodily fluid over time and store it for later analyzation. The one or more bodily fluid storing capillaries may be formed by imprint lithography on a plastic or glass substrate.
SYSTEMS AND INTERFACES FOR BLOOD SAMPLING
The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for delivering and/or receiving a substance or substances such as blood from subjects. In one aspect, the present invention is directed to devices and methods for receiving or extracting blood from a subject, e.g., from the skin and/or from beneath the skin, using devices containing a substance transfer component (for example, one or more needles or microneedles) and a reduced pressure or vacuum chamber having an internal pressure less than atmospheric pressure prior to receiving blood. In some embodiments, the device may contain a “snap dome” or other deformable structure, which may be used, at least in part, to urge or move needles or other suitable substance transfer components into the skin of a subject. In some cases, for example, the device may contain a flexible concave member and a needle mechanically coupled to the flexible concave member such that the needle may be urged or moved into the skin using the flexible concave member. Other aspects of the present invention are directed at other devices for receiving blood (or other bodily fluids, e.g., interstitial fluid), kits involving such devices, methods of making such devices, methods of using such devices, and the like.
