The present disclosure describes surgical dilators including a multi-faceted shaped tip and methods of use associated therewith.

Self-righting systems and related components and methods

Self-righting articles, such as self-righting capsules for administration to a subject, are generally provided. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may be configured such that the article may orient itself relative to a surface. The self-righting articles described herein may comprise one or more tissue engaging surfaces configured to engage with a surface. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may have a particular shape and/or distribution of density (or mass) which, for example, enables the self-righting behavior of the article. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may comprise a tissue interfacing component and/or a pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery of the active pharmaceutical agent to a location internal of the subject). In some cases, upon contact of the tissue with the tissue engaging surface of the article, the self-righting article may be configured to release one or more tissue interfacing components.

Biopsy methods and devices

Disclosed are methods for detecting remnant cancer cells in a tissue sample.

Steerable shape sensing biopsy needle

A biopsy needle has a central axis and includes one or more sensing regions, each sensing region formed by a plurality of sensing optical fibers located over a particular extent of said central axis and inside the outer shell of the needle. The sensing optical fibers are coupled to a wavelength interrogator. A steerable catheter has a central axis and outer shell, the outer shell coupled to a plurality of optical fibers in sensing regions and actuation regions, the sensing regions formed over particular extents of the central axis by bonding gratings to the inner surface of the outer shell, and the actuation regions formed by coupling optical energy into shape memory alloys bonded to the outer shell.

Disclosed are systems, methods, and computer-readable media for navigating to and interacting with a region of interest during a respiratory cycle of a patient. An exemplary system includes a percutaneous tool, a plurality of patient sensors disposed on the patient, a tracking module configured to determine location and motion data of the plurality of patient sensors and a tool coupled to the percutaneous tool, a display device, and a computing device configured to receive a plurality of images of the patient's body, receive the location and motion data determined by the tracking module, generate a model of the interior of the patient, determine likely movement of the interior of the patient, the percutaneous tool, and the region of interest throughout the respiratory cycle, and cause the display device to display a graphical user interface including a window for depicting movement throughout the respiratory cycle.

MEDICAL NEEDLE DEVICE
20230062346 · 2023-03-02 · ·

The present invention relates to a medical needle device, and more specifically, to a medical needle device capable of drilling a fine passage in an affected part of a patient, or collecting a portion of tissue in the body of the patient. Through the present invention, a needle and a handle of the medical needle device may be separated, and thus the device may be conveniently used while not obstructing the view of the affected part when using same.

Further, through the present invention, the handle and the needle are unshakably fastened, and thus may be stably used.

Surgical instrument with LED lighting and absolute orientation
11628017 · 2023-04-18 · ·

A surgical instrument having a position sensor that may be detachable, disposable, partially isolated from movement of the main body of the surgical instrument, and/or configured to display feedback lighting. The orientation of the surgical instrument may be mimicked either virtually or by a mechanical device with a second surgical instrument. The instruments of the present disclosure may be used in any procedure or treatment that would benefit from position feedback for the instruments.

Use of copper-chromium alloy in biopsy puncture needle

The present disclosure discloses use of a copper-chromium alloy in a medical biopsy puncture needle. The copper-chromium alloy used as a material for a needle core and/or needle tube of the puncture needle. The copper-chromium alloy includes the following components by mass: 10≤Cr≤20, 0.04≤Zr≤0.1, and the balance of Cu. According to the present disclosure, a copper alloy with designed components is obtained by combining a diamagnetic material Cu with paramagnetic Cr and Zr, and compared with existing medical stainless steel and titanium alloy, the copper alloy has greatly reduced magnetic susceptibility, and specifically, the artifact area and volume are also significantly reduced. In addition, the blank of use of the copper alloy in medical biopsy paracentesis is filled.

Needle assembly with flexible catheter nose for diagnostic sampling of fluid

A needle assembly for sampling fluid from a patient including a needle guard, an insertion needle, and a needle housing. The distal end of the needle guard includes a nose portion and a flexible nose extension defining a fluid collection reservoir. The proximal end of the needle guard includes a push feature. The insertion needle has a sharpened distal tip, a proximal needle end and a shaft defining a lumen extending therebetween. The needle housing is operably coupled to the proximal needle end and is slideably coupled to the needle guard. The needle housing includes a flash chamber including a wall defining a cavity. The cavity is in fluid communication with the lumen of the insertion needle and is sealed at one end by a gas permeable flash plug. The push feature selectively engages the flash plug to divert captured bodily fluids to the fluid collection reservoir for sampling.

Customizable saturation biopsy

A system and method for customized saturation biopsy is provided that facilitates diagnosis, management and treatment of cancer or other disease in a gland or organ. The system includes a pathology mapping unit that identifies a plurality of regions of a biopsy area. A grid assembly is coupled to the pathology mapping unit, the grid assembly including a grid disposed externally to the biopsy area. A display is coupled to the pathology mapping unit that displays information corresponding to the plurality of regions of the biopsy area, the pathology mapping unit controlling a configuration of the grid and the information corresponding to the plurality of regions. An image probe can be provided that acquires at least one image of the biopsy area, and the display displays the at least one image. An interface can be provided that is coupled to the display and supplies information to the pathology mapping unit.
