SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REMOVING A TISSUE SPECIMEN OR ORGAN THROUGH A SMALL INCISION OR NATURAL OPENING IN A PATIENT

Systems and methods for facilitating the removal of a tissue specimen from a patient are disclosed. The systems include a bag or pouch, a tissue cutter device, a support and a stabilizer. The tissue cutter device includes a passer, a wire, and a handle. The support is an elongated member. The passer is an elongated member configured to be coupled to the support and introduced as a temporary unit into the mouth of the bag or pouch in the patient's body holding the tissue specimen. The wire is attached to the passer. The temporary unit is configured to pass around the tissue specimen and out of the opening in the bag or pouch to carry the wire through that path so that a distal portion of the wire and a proximal portion of the wire are outside the patient's body. Those portions of the wire can be pulled to cut into the tissue specimen. The stabilizer holds the tissue specimen as the wire cuts into it. The bag or pouch includes direction-bearing indicia to facilitate viewing of the methods from within the patient's body.

Protective barrier is configured to be collapsed, rolled, and/or folded into a size that can pass through an opening, such as a trocar. Protective barrier, when deployed in the peritoneal cavity, may be used to collect tissue, tissue parts, blood and/or other fluid that may spray during Morcellation or other laparoscopic procedure. After completion of the procedure, protective barrier can be collapsed, rolled or folded at a size that can be easily removed from the peritoneal cavity.

The pouches can be inverted so that pockets of the pouches open toward a bottom end portion of the collection bag.

A tissue specimen retrieval device includes an outer shaft including a proximal portion and a distal portion. The distal portion of the outer shaft includes a first jaw defining a first side of a lumen in the distal portion of the outer shaft. A second jaw defines a second side of the lumen in the distal portion of the outer shaft. The first and second jaws are actuatable between a closed configuration and an expanded configuration in which the first and second jaws are spaced relative to each other. A tissue specimen bag is supported by the first jaw and the second jaw. A bag brim of the tissue specimen bag defines a collapsed configuration when positioned in the lumen defined by the first jaw and the second jaw and an open configuration when the first and second jaws are in the expanded configuration.

SPECIMEN RETRIEVAL DEVICE

A specimen retrieval device includes a tubular body, an inner shaft slidably positioned within a longitudinal bore of the tubular body, and a specimen bag supported on the distal portion of the inner shaft. In embodiments, the tubular body tubular body is formed of a lubricious material. The specimen bag is formed from a pattern and welded by a radiofrequency welder. The specimen bag includes a tail section through which the inner shaft passes, and the tail section may be attached to a handle at a proximal portion of the inner shaft.

The elastic opening expansion mechanism and the opening closure assembly are disposed in an opening of the endobag. The endobag is placed in the variable-diameter assembly for endobag collection and release; and the variable-diameter assembly for endobag collection and release is placed in a trocar cannula.

A second end of the second hollow tube may include cutting elements. A tissue specimen retrieval bag assembly includes a tissue specimen bag having an open proximal end and a closed distal end, the proximal end including a cuff defined therein and extending therearound. A flexible bag brim is disposed within the cuff, the flexible bag brim transitionable between a first, collapsed configuration and a second, expanded configuration. The flexible bag brim includes a D-Shaped cross section configured to facilitate both furling the tissue specimen bag onto itself around the bag brim when the bag brim is disposed in the second, expanded configuration and securing the tissue specimen bag in a desired furled configuration. The flexible bag brim defines a cavity therein configured to facilitate compression thereof and to facilitate handling of the bag brim by a surgical instrument.

Single incision laparoscopic tissue retrieval system

A tissue retrieval system can include a tissue retrieval bag with an elongate profile. The tissue retrieval bag can have a relatively large volume, but be rollable to a stowed configuration to fit in a relatively small diameter introducer. The tissue retrieval system can include one or more support arms coupled to the tissue retrieval bag, the support arms biased to position the tissue retrieval bag in an access position once deployed from the introducer. A tissue retrieval system can have a hybrid tissue retrieval bag including material properties that vary along the depth of the bag from an open end to a closed end. A tissue retrieval bag can be used in conjunction with an introducer, or as a stand alone tissue retrieval bag.
