Hand-tool grips
A hand tool having hinged nipping or cutting blades and handles that are squeezed to effect the cutting or nipping action, at least one of the handles being profiled in cross section to accept and retain a slide-on cushion.
Transvaginal specimen extraction device
In laparoscopic surgery, small (5-12 mm diameter) incisions are made in an abdominal wall through which instruments dissect and remove specimens that may be several centimeters in diameter. Removal of a sample typically requires either enlarging these incisions or morcellating the sample to pass through sub-centimeter ports. A laparoscopic device permits extraction of the sample to be removed in a female using a vagina, which has sufficient elasticity to accommodate removal of large specimens. A posterior portion of the vagina communicates to an abdomen through a few tissue layers, and is distant from vital anatomic structures. Utilizing the vagina is optimal due to its ease of access to the abdomen and repair, minimal scarring and post-operative pain, and faster recovery following surgery. A deployable collection bag is housed in a sheath, which is deployed into the vagina or an abdominal cavity to extract a large (multiple-centimeter) specimen(s) through the vagina. An optional insufflation system and an inflatable balloon to maintain a pneumoperiotoneum may be used to reduce a number of laparoscopic ports required.
Surgical instrument with removable portion to facilitate cleaning
A surgical instrument has an ultrasonic blade that connects to a distal end of an ultrasonic waveguide. A clamp arm assembly is moveable from an opened position for receiving a tissue, toward a closed position for clamping the tissue. A clamp arm actuator connected to the clamp arm assembly directs the clamp arm assembly from the opened position toward the closed position. An outer sheath surrounds at least a portion of the ultrasonic waveguide. The outer sheath includes a cover removably received against a sheath body, and a sheath securement feature able to detachably couple the cover to the sheath body such that the cover can be detached from the sheath body for accessing the ultrasonic waveguide within the outer sheath.
Systems and methods for therapeutic nasal neuromodulation
The invention generally relates to systems and methods for therapeutically modulating nerves in or associated with a nasal region of a patient for the treatment of a rhinosinusitis condition.
Apparatus and methods for tissue closure
Apparatus and methods are provided for treating a tissue opening, for example a trocar opening used in a minimally invasive surgical procedure. In a tissue closure device, a finger guard or shield can be used, handle or holding area or areas can be used, and positioning indicators can be used. A resiliently flexible target material can also be used for reliably holding a suture during the procedure. The resiliently flexible target material may be included as part of a removable mating component for use with a movable wing. Introducers can be used having a suture holder, an alignment indicator and insertion limits.
COMPOSITE ACTUATION HANDLES FOR A SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
Systems and methods for forming a handle apparatus may include shaping a strip of composite material with a flexible central portion, two grips, and two end portions. The strip may be bent onto itself such that the end portions are fastened together by a fastening device. The handle apparatus may also include a hole disposed in the flexible central portion through which a tool actuator may be passed.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT WITH LOCKING ARTICULATION DRIVE WHEEL
A surgical instrument includes a shaft assembly and an articulation control assembly. The shaft assembly includes an articulation section that is configured to deflect a distal end portion from the longitudinal axis. The articulation control assembly includes an articulation control member and a transmission assembly. The articulation control member is rotatably mounted relative to the shaft assembly. The transmission assembly is operatively connected between the articulation control member and the articulation section of the shaft assembly. The transmission assembly is configured to transmit selective manipulation of the articulation control member to the articulation section and selectively actuate the articulation section. The articulation control assembly is configured to lock without selective manipulation of the articulation control member to thereby inhibit actuation of the articulation section and unlock with selective manipulation of the articulation control member to thereby actuate the articulation section.
SURGICAL STAPLING SYSTEM COMPRISING A GROOVED FORMING POCKET
An end effector for use with a surgical fastening instrument is disclosed which comprises a staple cartridge and an anvil. The staple cartridge comprises a cartridge body including a deck and, in addition, fasteners removably stored in the cartridge body, wherein each fastener comprises a base and a leg extending from the base. The anvil comprises a tissue compression surface and forming pockets defined in the tissue compression surface. Each forming pocket comprises a first end configured to receive a staple leg, a second end, a central axis extending between the first end and the second end, a concave turning surface extending between the first end and the second end, and a channel defined in the concave turning surface, wherein the channel is laterally offset from the central axis.
INTERCHANGEABLE SURGICAL TOOL ASSEMBLY WITH A SURGICAL END EFFECTOR THAT IS SELECTIVELY ROTATABLE ABOUT A SHAFT AXIS
A surgical instrument is disclosed. In one form, the surgical instrument comprises an elongate shaft assembly and an end effector that is configured for selective rotation relative to the axis of the elongate shaft assembly. The surgical instrument can include a rotary locking system for locking the surgical end effector in rotary orientations about the shaft axis upon application of axial locking and axial unlocking motions to the rotary locking system. The surgical instrument may further comprise a rotary drive system that is configured to apply rotary control motions to a firing member as well as to apply rotary positioning motions to the surgical end effector.
SURGICAL STAPLING SYSTEM COMPRISING A TISSUE COMPRESSION LOCKOUT
A surgical instrument comprising a lockout is disclosed.
