METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INTRAOPERATIVE MEASUREMENTS OF ANATOMICAL ORIENTATION
Electronic devices that detect their position and/or orientation with respect to earth's frame of reference are described. A coupler can removeably maintain the electronic devices in physical proximity of one another. Each electronic device can have a housing and the coupler can be included on the housing and arranged to physically connect the housing of the electronic device to the housing of at least one other electronic device. Alternatively, the coupler can be a packaging that maintains the electronic devices in physical proximity of one another. Each electronic device can be calibrated using the orientation or position information obtained by other electronic devices maintained by the coupler. Further, each electronic device can include a power source that remains inactive until the device is ready for use.
System for delivery and deployment of an occluder and method
A system for delivery and deployment of an occluder includes a handle, an actuating mechanism with a motion amplifier and a sheath positioning mechanism within the handle. A driveshaft of the actuating mechanism extends through the handle, the sheath positioning mechanism, and an attached sheath so as to couple with an occluder deployed via the driveshaft within a body lumen in a patient.
ADAPTOR OR ADAPTOR SYSTEM FOR RENDERING MEDICAL DEVICES FUNCTIONALLY STERILE
An adaptor for coupling a surgical tool to a handle having a drive mechanism for operating the surgical tool is provided. The adaptor includes two telescopically connected segments, a first segment being for engaging the surgical tool and a second segment for engaging the handle. When the first and the second segments are telescopically collapsed they operatively link the surgical tool with the handle drive mechanism while preventing user contact with potentially non-sterile regions of the handle and/or tool.
CANNULA WITH PROXIMALLY MOUNTED CAMERA AND TRANSPARENT OBTURATOR
A cannula system and method for accessing a blood mass in the brain. The system comprises a cannula with a camera mounted on the proximal end of the cannula with a view into the cannula lumen and the surgical field below the lumen. A prism, reflector or other suitable optical element is oriented between the camera and the lumen of the cannula to afford the camera a view into the cannula while minimizing obstruction of the lumen. The system may also include an obturator with a small diameter shaft and a large diameter tip which is optically transmissive, so that a surgeon inserting or manipulating the assembly can easily see that the obturator tip is near brain tissue (which is white) or blood (which is red).
MEDICAL INSTRUMENT DRIVING
Methods, systems, and devices for controlling a medical instrument are discussed herein. For example, image data can be received from a first instrument that is configured to access an anatomical site via a first access path. The image data can be representative of the anatomical site and a second instrument that is configured to access the anatomical site via a second access path. A visual representation of the image data can be displayed in a user interface and a first directional input signal can be received from an input device. An orientation of the first instrument relative to the second instrument can be determined. Movement of the second instrument can be controlled based at least in part on the first directional input signal and the orientation of the first instrument relative to the second instrument.
CONTROL SCHEME CALIBRATION FOR MEDICAL INSTRUMENTS
Methods, systems, and devices for calibrating a medical instrument are discussed herein. For example, a first instrument can be configured to access an anatomical site via a first access path and a second instrument can be configured to access the anatomical site via a second access path. The second instrument can include an imaging component configured to provide image data representative of the anatomical site and the first instrument. A difference can be identified between a first coordinate frame associated with the first instrument and a second coordinate frame associated with the second instrument. A control frame of reference associated with the first instrument can be updated based at least in part on the difference.
Accessing and treating tissue within a vertebral body
Described herein are various implementations of systems and methods for accessing and modulating tissue (for example, systems and methods for accessing and ablating nerves or other tissue within or surrounding a vertebral body to treat chronic lower back pain). Assessment of vertebral endplate degeneration or defects (e.g., pre-Modic changes) to facilitate identification of treatment sites and protocols are also provided in several embodiments. Several embodiments comprise the use of biomarkers to confirm or otherwise assess ablation, pain relief, efficacy of treatment, etc. Some embodiments include robotic elements for, as an example, facilitating robotically controlled access, navigation, imaging, and/or treatment.

A system including an instrument adapted to be manually supported and moved by a user. The instrument having a hand-held portion, a working portion movably coupled to the hand-held portion, and a plurality of actuators operatively coupled to the working portion for moving the working portion in a plurality of degrees of freedom relative to the hand-held portion. The instrument having a tracking device attached to the hand-held portion. The system including a navigation system for determining a position of the working portion relative to a target volume, and a control system in communication with the actuators to control the actuators to move the working portion relative to the hand-held portion such that the working portion autonomously follows a path defined in the control system to remove material of the target volume while the user maintains the hand-held portion in a gross position relative to the target volume.

MEDICAL INSTRUMENT FOR PERCUTANEOUS RELEASE PROCEDURES
A medical instrument for percutaneous release procedures, especially on upper or lower limbs, including percutaneous carpal tunnel release or percutaneous A1 pulley release. The medical instrument includes a handle portion to allow handling, orientation and manipulation of the medical instrument by a surgeon, and an elongated rod member secured to the handle portion and extending substantially within a defined plane. A first portion of the elongated rod member extends substantially along a first direction within the defined plane away from the handle portion, and a second portion of the elongated rod member is curved and/or bent within the defined plane. A free end of the elongated rod member, at a terminal end of the second portion, may be shaped as a beveled end including a beveled surface, which beveled end acts as a cutting device to severe tissue, and the beveled surface being inclined with respect to the defined plane.
