20170281286 · 2017-10-05 ·

A surgical robot/instrument system comprising a holding arm whose distal end portion has a gripping or holding device arranged thereon, the latter being designed to hold a trocar or a surgical instrument in an exchangeable fashion, and a surgical instrument with a minimally invasive design comprising an instrument shaft whose distal end portion supports an instrument tip via a joint, said instrument tip supporting an effector of the surgical instrument. The surgical robot/instrument system comprises drives by means of which functions such as actuating the effector, inclining or bending of the effector at its joint to the instrument shaft, rotating the effector around its longitudinal axis and/or rotating the instrument shaft, moving the instrument shaft in its shaft direction as well as moving the instrument shaft transverse to the shaft direction can be effected. The drives for effecting at least the instrument-internal functions, such as actuating the effector, inclining or bending the effector at its joint to the instrument shaft and rotating the effector around its longitudinal axis are provided internally on or in the surgical instrument. The drives for effecting the instrument-external functions, such as moving the instrument shaft transverse to the shaft direction, are provided externally on/in the holding arm.

MEDICAL PLUG DELIVERY DEVICES WITH A ROTATABLE MAGAZINE AND RELATED COMPONENTS AND METHODS

Medical devices for delivering compositions or medical articles to a patient are disclosed. The medical plug delivery devices can include a fluid delivery device (e.g., a syringe), a frame, and a rotatable magazine. The rotatable magazine can include a plurality of chambers that each hold a composition or a medical article (e.g., a medical plug). By rotating the rotatable magazine relative to the frame, material within the chambers of the rotatable magazine can be sequentially deployed to a patient.

Method and device for recanalization of total occlusions
09775632 · 2017-10-03 · ·

An apparatus, system and method for re-canalization or opening a passage through an occlusion in a blood vessel is disclosed. The apparatus and method, which are appropriate for both cardiovascular as well as peripheral vessels, use hydraulic pressure to drive a vibratable member, and the system includes a control unit to permit the frequency or amplitude of oscillation of the vibratable member to be adjusted to suit the morphology or hardness of the target occlusion. Also disclosed is a method for adjusting the force of vibration.

CONTROL FOR RELIABLE ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY OF TWO FUNCTIONAL UNITS OF A MULTI-PART MEDICAL DEVICE

A medical device includes two device units having two functional units that can be coupled to each other to actuate the second functional unit via the first functional unit. The first functional unit has a mechanical coupling segment which can be brought into a coupling position to couple with the second functional unit. A detector for detecting a relative position of the two device units or a distance between the two device units is provided on at least one device unit. The electrical or electronic control of the first functional unit is configured such that the mechanical coupling segment of the first functional unit can be brought into the coupling position only if the two device units are in a certain position with respect to each other or fall below a minimum distance from each other.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERCUTANEOUS DELIVERY AND DEPLOYMENT OF A CARDIAC VALVE PROSTHESIS
20170245988 · 2017-08-31 ·

Catheter apparatuses and methods are provided for repairing heart valves, particularly mitral valves. The method includes providing a catheter having an elongate, flexible body, with a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end can be transluminally advanced from the left atrium through the mitral valve. A distal anchor zone or portion coupled with the proximal end can extend and along the left ventricular outflow tract into the ascending aorta. A valve repair device is deployed to permanently connect leaflets at a mid-section of a mitral valve while permitting medial and lateral portions of the natural leaflets to open and close. The catheter apparatuses may be positionable using a steering device. The valve repair device detachably connects the distal and proximal ends of the catheter. The valve repair device can be detached using low profile devices actuatable from the proximal or distal ends, e.g., at a venous or arterial access site.

REMOTELY POWERED ARTICULATED MEDICAL APPARATUS

One or more apparatus and systems for articulated movement, particularly for an articulated medical device such as an endoscope or medical robot. The apparatus comprises an articulated movement portion with tendon control, a transition portion comprising actuation rods, springs, and distal stoppers, a conduit portion comprising lumen filled with air or hydraulic fluid; a translation portion comprising a proximal stopper; and a power unit.

STEERABLE ENDOLUMINAL PUNCH
20170245885 · 2017-08-31 · ·

A transseptal needle or punch wherein the distal end of the transseptal needle is able to articulate laterally out of the longitudinal axis of the steerable transseptal needle. The transseptal needle further comprise a blunted distal end configuration that is minimally traumatic. Under control by the user or a computer, at the proximal end of the transseptal needle can be articulated to generate various curves with high bending force. The transseptal needle is configured for use within a transseptal introducer.

Bone graft injection device

Apparatus is provided that includes a surgical tool for use with solid particles and a physiological liquid solution. The surgical tool includes (a) a shaft unit, which is shaped so as to define a delivery lumen, and a distal opening, which is disposed within 10 mm of a distal end of the shaft unit, in fluid communication with the delivery lumen; (b) a composition source, which is coupled in fluid communication with the delivery lumen, and which is configured to provide a solid-liquid composition of the solid particles and the physiological liquid solution; and (c) a pump, which is configured to pump the solid-liquid composition through the distal opening via the delivery lumen.

CRYOCLAMP AND METHOD OF USE

A cryogenic medical device is disclosed for use in minimally invasive surgical procedures. Various configurations of cryoprobes are designed in combination with a clamp to form a cryoclamp for the treatment of damaged, diseased, cancerous or other unwanted tissues. The device is an integrated cryoablation probe with a hinged clamp that allows for single entry into the chest cavity through a thorascopic port, by surgical or other means. The integrated cryoablation probe allows for the clamping of tissue as well as freezing with a single device. The clamp acts as an outer sheath so that when closed, directional freezing of the cryoprobe is achieved on the opposing probe surface away from the clamp or on an internal surface that is between the clamp. The cryoclamp may be a removable attachment or integrated into the unitary device.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING ARTHROSCOPIC MICROFRACTURE SURGERY

A microfracture instrument for applying microfracture therapy to a bone, the microfracture instrument comprising: an elongated shaft comprising a distal end and a proximal end; a needle comprising a body terminating in at least one sharp point, the needle being movably mounted to the distal end of the shaft for movement between an extended position for engaging the bone with the at least one sharp point of the needle and a retracted position for withdrawing the at least one sharp point of the needle from the bone; and a drive shaft movably mounted to the elongated shaft, the drive shaft being connected to the body of the needle so that movement of the drive shaft relative to the elongated shaft moves the needle between its extended position and its retracted position.
