Independent surgical center

A biological tissue cutting and fluid aspiration system provides a plurality of surgical instruments operable independent of an external control console. In some embodiments, each surgical instrument may include all sensors and controls directly applicable to the surgical instrument, and may be used independently. In some embodiments, instruments communicate status information to each other, and adjust operating parameters based on the communications.

CRYOCLAMP AND METHOD OF USE

A cryogenic medical device is disclosed for use in minimally invasive surgical procedures. Various configurations of cryoprobes are designed in combination with a clamp to form a cryoclamp for the treatment of damaged, diseased, cancerous or other unwanted tissues. The device is an integrated cryoablation probe with a hinged clamp that allows for single entry into the chest cavity through a thorascopic port, by surgical or other means. The integrated cryoablation probe allows for the clamping of tissue as well as freezing with a single device. The clamp acts as an outer sheath so that when closed, directional freezing of the cryoprobe is achieved on the opposing probe surface away from the clamp or on an internal surface that is between the clamp. The cryoclamp may be a removable attachment or integrated into the unitary device.

A surgical instrument is provided and includes a housing having a shaft. An end effector assembly is operatively connected to a distal end of the shaft and has a pair of first and second jaw members that are movable relative to one another. A drive assembly operably couples to a handle assembly associated with the housing and is configured to impart movement of a respective jaw member when the handle assembly is actuated. A spring component operably associated with each of the jaw members is configured to provide a sealing force at the jaw members.

A hemostatic device is disclosed, which capable of favorably maintaining strength of an inflatable portion and reducing a pressing force acting on a site where bleeding is to be stopped over time to such an extent that vascular occlusion can be prevented without operation by a doctor or a nurse. The hemostatic device includes a band for wrapping around a wrist, a fastener or means for securing the band to the wrist in a wrapped state, and an inflatable portion connected to the band and inflated by being injected with a gas, in which the inflatable portion includes a resin layer made of a resin material, a particulate portion dispersed in the resin layer, and a space portion formed around the particulate portion. The space portion contains gas dispersed in the resin layer so as not to communicate between an inner surface and an outer surface of the resin layer.

Pneumatic medical motors for a surgical controller

Apparatus is provided, comprising first and second rails (140) and a pneumatic motor assembly (22). The assembly comprises a first motor subassembly (180), comprising a first-motor subassembly locking balloon (160), which locks the first rail to the first motor subassembly by inflation thereof; and a first-motor subassembly moving balloon (170), which moves the first rail by a mechanism of either inflation or deflation of the first-motor subassembly moving balloon, when the first-motor locking balloon is inflated. Assembly (22) additionally comprises a second motor subassembly (185), comprising a second-motor assembly locking balloon (165), which locks the second rail to the second motor subassembly by inflation thereof; and a second-motor subassembly moving balloon (175), configured to move the second rail by a mechanism selected from either inflation or deflation of the second-motor subassembly moving balloon, when the second-motor subassembly locking balloon is inflated. Other applications are also provided.

Forceps manipulator and forceps system comprising forceps manipulator

The present invention is intended to improve durability and operability of a forceps manipulator, as well as to facilitate roll motions of the forceps manipulator. In the forceps manipulator, a flexible shaft 34 is connected to a rotating joint unit 26 for transmitting a driving force from a vane motor 40 to the rotating joint unit 26 through throughholes 18a, 22a of machined springs 18b, 22b which respectively constitute flexible first and second joints 18, 22.

MEDICAL DEVICE

A medical device includes an expandable-and-contractible member capable of radially expanding and radially contracting, an incising member disposed on an outer circumference of the expandable-and-contractible member and having a hollow portion, a core wire inserted in the hollow portion, a distal tip, and a ring. The core wire is capable of sliding in a longitudinal direction of the medical device as the expandable-and-contractible member expands or contracts. The incising member is therefore not likely to come off upon radial expansion or radial contraction of the expandable-and-contractible member, and is therefore not likely to interfere with the expanding or contracting movement of the expandable-and-contractible member.

Vacuum powered rotary devices and methods

The present devices and methods relate generally to vacuum or suction powered medical devices and methods for cutting, resecting, excising, morcellating and/or evacuating tissue from various regions of a patient's body. In certain variations, the devices may produce a rotational motion by converting a linear reciprocating motion to a rotational motion, causing a cutting shaft or other tool to rotate to perform work on a tissue in various regions of the body.

TOOL MANIPULATOR AND SYSTEM FOR POSITIONING A TOOL FOR SURGICAL AND LIKE USES

The present disclosure relates to a tool manipulator, comprising a base, mountable on an operation table. A caliper is supported by the base and a tool holder is mounted on the caliper. An actuator positionable below a patient supporting surface of the operation table receives positioning commands for moving a tool in at least three degrees of freedom. The tool manipulator can be made part of a system for positioning a needle for diagnosis or treatment of the prostate of a patient. The system also comprises a power source connected to the actuator and a controller controlling the provision of the positioning commands to the actuator.
