Apparatus for closing wounds

A method for closing a subcutaneous arterial wound is provided which utilizes a patient's whole blood by homogenously exposing the patient's whole blood to a porous matrix to initiate the clotting cascade of the patient's whole blood and situating the patient's whole blood at a position proximate to the arterial wound as the patient's whole blood is clotting. The method may include holding a subcutaneous mass comprising the patient's whole blood in position proximate the arterial wound as the patient's whole blood continues to clot, whereby a hemostatic closure comprising the patient's whole blood is formed.

A system and method for closing a fascial opening is disclosed. The system may include a strap that may be locked into each of a pair of anchors placed anterior to a muscle and on opposite sides of a fascial opening, one or more delivery tubes for delivering the anchors, and a needle for pulling the strap into each anchor. The method may include the steps of placing a dilating port through a skin incision, inserting an anchor through the dilating port, placing a strap into the body cavity, whereupon the strap may be pulled through the anchor. A second anchor may be placed on the contralateral side of the defect so that the strap may be pulled through the second anchor and cinched tightly closing the defect. The anchors may have a locking aperture that engages with the strap.

A medical device and methods of applying a barrier product are described that allow for improved adhesion of a barrier product to skin in the area of a wound such as a stoma, fistula or other opening in human skin. The medical devices herein include a handle; a roller arm; and a roller head. The exterior surface of the roller head is configured to enhance adhesion of a barrier product to an area of mammal skin near a wound opening. Kits and other options are described for facilitating use of the medical devices by patients having wounds or medical professionals.

Medical probe, assembly and method

A medical probe for traversing a tract in the body of a human or animal. One medical probe includes an elongate elastically deformable member including a helically wound element, and a sheath having an inner surface which contacts an outer surface of the elastically deformable member. The probe is elastically deformable, for traversing the tract, by virtue of the elastically deformable member. The probe may include a treatment element, which can be used to perform a procedure in the body of a patient. An assembly includes a probe and a treatment element. The medical probe has a particular use in the treatment of a fistula, in which the probe takes the form of a fistula probe adapted to traverse a fistula tract.

A DEVICE FOR THE TREATMENT OF ANAL FISTULA-IN-ANO AND COMPLEX FISTULA-IN-ANO
20220168009 · 2022-06-02 ·

A device for the treatment of anal fistula-in-ano and complex fistula-in-ano is disclosed. The device comprises: a balloon inflation/deflation tube (1); a suction/drainage tube (3); a scooping tube (2) that is disposed between the balloon inflation/deflation tube (1) and the suction/drainage tube (3); a diaphragm (4) that is disposed across the balloon inflation/deflation tube (1) and the suction/drainage tube (3); and an irrigation/drainage path (5) that is disposed between a balloon (6) and a plurality of spikes (7), said balloon (6) being disposed at an end of the of the balloon inflation/deflation tube (1), and said plurality of spikes (7) being disposed on an outer surface of both the balloon inflation/deflation tube (1) and the suction/drainage tube (3). The disclosed device: prevents premature closure of fistula wound, thereby minimizing the chances of recurrence; is easy to use, thus avoiding the need for a skilled medical practitioner; causes minimal pain; and is less time consuming.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR TREATING A VESSEL IN A SUBJECT

A method of treating a vessel in a subject comprises the steps of advancing a device distally across a treatment zone in a vessel, wherein the device comprises an elongated catheter having a lumen and a distal end, and a radially expansive treatment element disposed in the lumen and configured for axial movement relative to the catheter; deploying the radially expansive treatment element proud of the distal end of the catheter to radially expand and circumferentially impress against the vessel lumen at a distal end of the treatment zone; and withdrawing the deployed radially expansive treatment element proximally along the treatment zone with the treatment element circumferentially impressed against the vessel lumen to mechanically and circumferentially denude the treatment zone of the vessel. The radially expansive treatment element is then recaptured into the lumen of the catheter, before the device is withdrawn from the treated vessel.
