MEDICAL DEVICES HAVING SMOOTHLY ARTICULATING MULTI-CLUSTER JOINTS
An articulating joint comprising a multi-cluster joint where every consecutive pair of links is interfaced by a gimbal, which offers rotation about two orthogonal axes within the same plane. Thus, the articulating joint comprises an alternating sequence of links and gimbals. Furthermore, there may be multiple cables attached to one or more of the links. As these cables are selectively pulled and released, one can achieve any desired articulation of the articulating joint. There may be a transmission member extending through the links and gimbals, parallel to the central longitudinal axis of the joint in its nominal non-articulated condition. This transmission member may be either a tension member that is pulled on (e.g. a cable or flexible pull rod) and that loads the articulating joint in compression, or the transmission member may be a flexible push rod that loads the articulating joint in tension.
Offset orthopaedic reamer handle
The present invention provides an orthopaedic reamer handle that includes a reamer portion configured to transmit torque to a reamer head, a driver portion connected to the reamer portion that is configured to receive and transmit torque from a driver, and a drive train connecting the reamer portion to the driver portion to transmit torque from the driver portion to the reamer portion. The drive train includes a first drive shaft that defines a first axis and is connected to the driver portion at a first end and to a first intermediate connector at a second end. An offsetting member is connected to a second intermediate end of the first intermediate connector at an acute angle relative to the first axis and defines a second axis. The offsetting member connects to the reamer portion via a second intermediate connector at an acute angle relative to the second axis.
Joint assembly, guiding device, manufacturing and use of a joint assembly
A joint assembly for a guiding device comprises a plurality of guiding elements that are concentrically aligned with respect to one another and at least sectionally spherically shaped. The guiding elements are arranged as components of a combined spherical bearing and comprise spherical contact areas. At least two of the guiding elements are integrally manufactured. The at least two guiding elements enable a relative pivot movement therebetween. A guiding device for an instrument incorporates a respective joint assembly. A method of manufacturing a joint assembly involves integrally manufacturing at least to guiding elements that form components of a combined spherical bearing. Uses of a joint assembly involve a use as a spherical bearing in an instrument holder for a simulation system or an assistance system for minimally invasive operations.
Medical instrument
The application relates to a medical instrument with a hollow shaft, with a handle at the proximal end and a tool with two jaw parts at the distal end, of which at least one jaw part is pivotable, wherein a distal end region of the shaft is configured as a deflectable, rotatable tool tip, and wherein the jaw parts are adjustable between closed and open positions, wherein rotation of the tool tip and actuation of the jaw parts take place via actuation elements coupled at the proximal end to the handle. The distal end of the shaft and the proximal end of the tool tip are arc-shaped, and roll on each other for the deflection of the tool tip, and are conveyed from the shaft into the deflectable tool tip via at least two identical joints, which are connected in series and which can transmit rotation and translatory movements.
SCREW DRIVER SYSTEM
Provided are a screw driver system and a screw driving bit. The screw driving bit includes a body having a first end and a second end with a longitudinal axis defined therebetween and an outer surface between the first and second ends. The screw driving bit includes a first circumferential groove and a second circumferential groove that are affixed in coaxially positioned arrangement about the longitudinal axis on the outer surface of the body each having a bottom surface. The bottom surface of the first circumferential groove defines a first outer diameter that is larger than a second outer diameter defined by the second circumferential groove. The guide clamp includes a jaw for holding the screw driving bit. When engaged with the first circumferential groove, the guide clamp prevents rotation of the screw driving bit. When engaged with the second circumferential groove, the guide clamp does not prevent rotation of the screw driving bit.
SURGICAL ARTICULATION ASSEMBLY
A surgical articulation assembly is disclosed, including a control assembly and an articulable portion. The articulable portion includes at least two segments capable of independent movement. The control assembly defines an axis and three user controls configured to be engaged by an operator. Disposed within the control assembly are three pairs of diametrically opposed driving members that effects translation of a connecting member upon engagement of the user controls. An end of the connecting member is attached to one of the first and second segments of the articulable portion. As the connecting member translates with the driving members, the three user controls allow an operator to exert forces at points along the articulable portion. Also disclosed is a method of effecting articulation of a surgical articulation assembly.
Medical device for modification of left atrial appendage and related systems and methods
Devices, methods and systems are provided for occluding an opening within the tissue of a body, such as a left atrial appendage. In one embodiment, a device includes a framework extending between a primary hub and a secondary hub. The secondary hub is moveable relative to the primary hub upon deploying the framework from a constricted position to a deployed position such that the secondary hub remains proximal a distal end of the framework. The framework, in the deployed position, includes engaging members proximal the distal end of the framework, and the framework includes multiple frame segments each extending with an arcuate configuration at a distal side of the framework such that the frame segments, at the distal side thereof, each extend radially and distally toward the distal end, then turn and extend radially and proximally inward toward the secondary hub.
STAPLER WITH COMPOSITE CARDAN AND SCREW DRIVE
A surgical instrument is provided that includes a first jaw having a first jaw axis and that includes a proximal portion pivotally mounted to the base to be pivotable about a pivot axis between an open and a closed positions and including a distal portion; a second jaw having a second jaw axis and including a proximal portion secured to the base and including a distal portion; a first side edge secured to the first jaw a second side edge secured to the second jaw; a third side edge secured to the first jaw; a drive member including a cross-beam, which is sized to slideably engage the first, second and third side edges, a first transverse beam portion, and a second transverse beam portion; and a lead screw configured to advance the drive member in a distal direction parallel to the second jaw axis while engaging one or the other of the first and second side edges and the second side edge.
CANNULA, CANNULA SYSTEM, AND MANIPULATOR
A cannula includes a first tubular member having a first longitudinal axis, a second tubular member having a second longitudinal axis, a connector that connects the first and second tubular members in series, and a rear bearing that supports the second tubular member in a three-dimensionally pivotable manner around an axis intersecting the second longitudinal axis. The first tubular member has a first through-hole into which a flexible and elongated medical treatment device is insertable, and is supported by a trocar in a state where the first tubular member extends through the trocar attached to a body wall of a patient. The second tubular member has a second through-hole into which the medical treatment device is insertable. The connector connects the first and second tubular members in a pivotable manner around an axis orthogonal to a plane including the first longitudinal axis and the second longitudinal axis.
