A method for reducing waste by recovering transition metal of a lithium secondary battery of the present invention includes preparing a cathode active material from a cathode of the lithium secondary battery, producing a first leachate by treating the cathode active material with a first acidic solution containing a reducing agent in an amount smaller than an amount corresponding to a reaction equivalent of the cathode active material, and producing a second leachate by treating the remaining cathode active material, which excludes a fraction contained in the first leachate, with a second acidic solution containing a reducing agent. Accordingly, extraction rate of manganese and purity of cobalt may be improved.
PROCESS, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM FOR RECOVERING MATERIALS FROM BATTERIES
The present application provides a process to recover materials from rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, thus recycling them. The process involves processing the batteries into a size-reduced feed stream; and then, via a series of separation, isolation, and/or leaching steps, allows for recovery of a copper product, cobalt, nickel, and/or manganese product, and a lithium product; and, optional recovery of a ferrous product, aluminum product, graphite product, etc An apparatus and system for carrying out size reduction of batteries under immersion conditions is also provided.
LITHIUM ION BATTERY SCRAP TREATMENT METHOD
The present invention relates to a method for treating lithium ion battery scrap containing Li, Ni, Co, Mn, Al, Cu and Fe, the method comprising carrying out a calcination step, a crushing step and a sieving step in this order, and after the steps, the method comprising: a leaching step of leaching the lithium ion battery scrap by adding it to an acidic solution to leave at least a part of Cu as a solid; a Fe/Al removal step comprising allowing a leached solution obtained in the leaching step to pass through a Fe removal process for separating and removing Fe by addition of an oxidizing agent and an Al removal process for separating and removing a part of Al by neutralization in any order; an Al/Mn extraction step of extracting and removing a residue of Al and Mn from a separated solution obtained in the Fe/Al removal step by solvent extraction; a Co recovery step of extracting and back-extracting Co from a first extracted solution obtained in the Al/Mn extraction step by solvent extraction and recovering the Co by electrolytic winning; a Ni recovery step of extracting and back-extracting, by solvent extraction, a part of Ni from a second extracted solution obtained by the solvent extraction in the Co recovery step and recovering the Ni by electrolytic winning; a Li concentration step of extracting and back-extracting, by solvent extraction, a residue of Ni and Li from a third extracted solution obtained by the solvent extraction in the Ni recovery step and repeating the operations of the extracting and the back-extracting to concentrate Li; and a Li recovery step of carbonating Li in a Li concentrated solution obtained in the Li concentration step to recover the Li as lithium carbonate.
METHOD FOR EXTRACTING VALUABLE METAL FROM LOW-MATTE NICKEL CONVERTER SLAG
Disclosed in the present invention is a method for extracting valuable metal from low-matte nickel converter slag. The method comprises: mixing low-matte nickel converter slag and quicklime then calcinating, obtaining a calcinated material; grinding and magnetically separating the calcinated material, obtaining silicate and iron-rich slag; adding a strong alkali solution to the iron-rich slag to perform leaching processing, and performing solid-liquid separation, obtaining a filtrate and a residue; mixing the residue with an acid solution, performing oxygen pressure acid leaching, and performing solid-liquid separation, obtaining a leachate and iron oxide; introducing hydrogen sulfide gas into the leachate, adjusting the pH, and performing solid-liquid separation, obtaining a copper sulfide precipitate and a nickel-cobalt-containing filtrate. In the present invention, first, removing silicon dioxide is removed by means of calcination to prepare silicate, then iron oxide is prepared by means of acid leaching, and finally metal separation is performed on the leachate, causing various components of the converter slag to be effectively utilized. The process flow of the present invention is short and effectively utilizes each component of the low-matte nickel converter slag, waste is turned into valuable material, and the loss of valuable metal elements is reduced.
HYDROMETALLURGICAL PROCESS FOR NICKEL OXIDE ORE
Provided is a hydrometallurgical process for nickel oxide ore for recovering nickel and cobalt using a high pressure acid leach process, the process achieving simplification and durability improvement of production facilities, achieving cost reduction and suppression of environmental risk by the compression of the capacity of a tailings dam for storing wastes, and being capable of recycling and effectively utilizing the wastes as a resource. The hydrometallurgical process for nickel oxide ore for recovering nickel and cobalt using a high pressure acid leach process includes an ore processing step, a leaching step, a solid-liquid separation step, a neutralization step, a zinc removal step, a sulfurization step, and a final neutralization step, and further includes step (A), or further includes step (A) and, step (B-1) and/or step (B-2) after step (A).
METHOD FOR RECOVERING VALUABLE METAL
A method capable of inexpensively recovering valuable metals is provided. The method for recovering a valuable metal includes: a preparation step of preparing a charge containing at least lithium (Li) and a valuable metal; an oxidation and reductive melting step of subjecting the charge to an oxidation treatment and a reductive melting treatment to produce a reduced product containing a molten alloy and a slag, the molten alloy containing the valuable metal; and a slag separation step of separating the slag from the reduced product to recover the molten alloy, in which the mole ratio of lithium (Li) to aluminum (Al) (Li/Al ratio) in the slag is 0.15 or more and less than 0.40, and the mole ratio of calcium (Ca) to aluminum (Al) (Ca/Al) in the slag is 0.15 or more.

The present invention relates to a method for recovering a rare metal salt, the method including: an acid treatment step of obtaining a rare metal-containing acidic aqueous solution by bringing a material including a monovalent rare metal and a polyvalent rare metal into contact with an acidic aqueous solution; a separation step of obtaining permeated water including the monovalent rare metal and non-permeated water including the polyvalent rare metal from the rare metal-containing acidic aqueous solution by using a nanofiltration membrane satisfying the condition (1); and a concentration step of obtaining non-permeated water having a higher concentration of the monovalent rare metal and permeated water having a lower concentration of the monovalent rare metal than that of the permeated water in the separation step, by using a reverse osmosis membrane.

A method of recovering lithium from a lithium-containing material comprises introducing a lithium-containing material to an electrochemical cell, transporting lithium ions from the lithium-containing material through a cation exchange membrane to a catholyte within a cathode chamber of the electrochemical cell, reacting the lithium ions with bicarbonate ions in the cathode chamber to form lithium carbonate, and removing the lithium carbonate from the catholyte. Related methods of recovering lithium from lithium-containing, materials, and related systems are disclosed.

POLYMETALLIC NODULE MINERAL PROCESSING
The present disclosure is directed, in certain embodiments, to processes for recovering metals from polymetallic nodules. The processes may include one or both of (i) a weak acid wash of the polymetallic nodule material and (ii) nano-filtration and/or limestone neutralization of recycled manganese-rich stream to remove magnesium from process streams to improve the recovery of target metals, including manganese. The processes may include cobalt and/or nickel solvent extraction to improve metal(s) recovery.
