BIOABSORBABLE STAPLE COMPRISING MECHANISMS FOR SLOWING THE ABSORPTION OF THE STAPLE

A surgical staple comprising a substrate and one or more coatings which slows the bioabsorption of the substrate. The coating can be selected so as to affect the environment surrounding the staple once the staple is implanted in the patient. The effect on the environment can cause the bioabsorption to occur within a desired time frame.

Axial lengthening thrombus capture system

Systems and methods can remove material of interest, including blood clots, from a body region, including but not limited to the circulatory system for the treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), cerebrovascular embolism, and other vascular occlusions.

Suture Having Adaptable Surface Characteristics, And Related Systems And Methods

A suture construct that is elongate along a longitudinal direction and configured to change in size from a first configuration to a second configuration includes an outer layer of material that extends along the longitudinal direction and has a plurality of intertwined fibers that comprise a first sub-set of fibers crossed by a second sub-set of fibers at respective intersections, such that the first subset of fibers and the second subset of fibers are configured to reorient relative to each other in a manner causing the outer layer of material to change in one or more of surface texture and visual appearance as the suture construct changes between the first and second configurations.

Method and apparatus for treating bone fractures, and/or for fortifying and/or augmenting bone, including the provision and use of composite implants, and novel composite structures which may be used for medical and non-medical applications

A composite comprising: a barrier, said barrier being configured to selectively pass water, and said barrier being degradable in the presence of water; a matrix material for disposition within said barrier, wherein said matrix material has a flowable state and a set state, and wherein said matrix material is degradable in the presence of water; and at least one reinforcing element for disposition within said barrier and integration with said matrix material, wherein said at least one reinforcing element is degradable in the presence of water, and further wherein, upon the degradation of said at least one reinforcing element in the presence of water, provides an agent for modulating the degradation rate of said matrix material in the presence of water.

COMPOSITE MATERIALS AND EMBOLIZATION METHODS

Embolization compositions and methods for controlling undesired bleeding and other treatments are provided. Preferred composition may comprise (a) a crosslinked hydrogel material; and (b) a fiber material, wherein the composition comprises a plurality of macropores; and the hydrogel material and fiber material are bonded by covalent and/or non-covalent bonds.

Various embodiments disclosed relate to a non-stick layer for insulative elements on electrosurgical cutting tools. The present disclosure includes systems, devices, and methods of making and using a non-stick layer on insulative element. The non-stick layer can include coatings, surface structures, or combinations thereof.

METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR OCCLUDING THE LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE

A device for occluding a patient's left atrial appendage (LAA) device includes a self-expanding closure disc and an anchor. The self-expanding closure disc has an atrial side, an appendage side, and a peripheral edge configured to engage tissue on both an atrial side and an appendage side of an opening between the left atrium and the left atrial appendage. The self-expanding anchor extends from the appendage side of the self-expanding closure disc, and an annular sealing skirt extends about at least a portion of the appendage side of the self-expanding closure disc. the annular sealing skirt is more compliant than the self-expanding closure disc to seal over the left appendage side of the opening after implantation of the device in the LAA.

The present disclosure is directed to an instrument kit tracking system that includes a housing that has tracking electronics that is contained in either a compartment or wall of the medical instrument kit or in a standalone unit that is affixed to a medical instrument kit to contain and protect an electronic device from external temperatures between 120-135° C.; where the medical instrument kit contains at least one medical instrument. The internal temperature of the instrument kit tracking system is maintained such that the electronic device contained therein is operable when the external temperature is between 120-135° C. A further layer, such as of a thickness of 1 mm, resides between the electronic device and the outer walls of the compartment or module. Access to the tracking electronics may also be selectively lockable.
