Apparatus for covering an exposed end of a severed sternum
The invention comprises an apparatus for covering an exposed end of a severed sternum, comprising a strip operative to cover the exposed end and pliable portions which are able to be manually deformed over sides of the exposed end so as to retain the strip against the exposed end to stop or at least reduce flow of blood from the exposed end.
ULTRASONIC SURGICAL INSTRUMENT WITH SLIDING BLADE SHEATH
A surgical instrument includes a gripping assembly, a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a pivoting member. The gripping assembly defines a first opening for receiving a finger or a thumb of a user. The gripping assembly includes a first deformable feature that is configured to be moved in order to increase or decrease a cross-sectional area of the first opening. The shaft assembly extends distally from the gripping assembly. The end effector is positioned at a distal end of the shaft assembly and includes a first member. The pivoting member is pivotably coupled with the shaft assembly. The pivoting member is pivotable with respect to the first member of the end effector between an open position and a closed position to thereby clamp tissue between the first member and the pivoting member.
Illuminated suction retractor device
A surgical device for retracting tissue of a subject while offering lighting and suction means integrated into the same device. This device is useful in many different surgical procedures, including those requiring precise tissue retraction in small openings of a subject, such as facial orbital fracture repair.
Surgical visualization systems
A surgical device includes one or more cameras integrated therein. The view of each of the one or more cameras can be integrated together and provided to a surgeon display and/or an assistant display. A surgical tool that includes an integrated camera may be used in conjunction with the surgical device. The image produced by the camera integrated with the surgical tool may be associated with the images generated by the one or more cameras integrated in the surgical device. The position and orientation of the cameras and/or the surgical tool can be tracked, and the surgical tool can be rendered as at least partially transparent. A surgical device may be powered by a hydraulic system, thereby reducing electromagnetic interference with tracking devices.
SURGICAL STAPLING SYSTEM COMPRISING A TISSUE COMPRESSION LOCKOUT
A surgical instrument comprising a lockout is disclosed.
CIRCULAR STAPLING SYSTEM COMPRISING AN INCISABLE TISSUE SUPPORT
A surgical instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises a staple cartridge including a cartridge body comprising an annular array of staple cavities, staples removably stored in the staple cavities, a firing drive configured to eject the staples from the staple cavities, and a cutting member circumscribed by the staple cavities. The end effector further comprises an anvil including a tissue compression surface, forming surfaces configured to deform the staples and a tissue block. The anvil is movable toward the cartridge body to compress tissue between the cartridge body and the tissue block and the cutting member is configured to incise the tissue and the tissue block during a cutting stroke of the cutting member.
EXPANDABLE BODY DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE
Disclosed herein are devices, designs, methods of manufacturing and using medical devices comprising expandable bodies for treating saccular vascular aneurysms and occluding segments of blood vessels and other biological conduits. Exemplary expandable bodies include hollow gold structures that can be folded, wrapped, and compressed, joined to a delivery device, advanced to location in the body of patient in need of treatment, expanded by injection of a fluid into the central void, and separated from the delivery device, remaining in place in an open, expanded form without the addition of support structures to the central void. Other expandable bodies include coiled wires that can be loaded into delivery catheters and expelled from the delivery catheters using pusher devices. Also disclosed herein, are methods of using multiple medical devices and expandable bodies where the expandable bodies are placed adjacent to each other to occlude a saccular aneurysm.
Devices for generating and applying compression within a body
This disclosure is directed to surgical fixation devices (e.g., staples, screws, etc.) which are able to bring bone fragments into close proximity with each other, generate a compressive load, and maintain that compressive load for a prolonged period of time while healing occurs. The surgical fixations devices are manufactured from a shape memory material (e.g., a material capable of exhibiting superelasticity and/or a temperature-induced shape change).
EXPANSION DEVICE FOR OPENING VALVE PERIMETER IN CARDIAC SURGERY
A tissue expander/retractor tool works within a narrow cavity/tunnel to access a deeper structure (e.g., the mitral valve) without consuming a significant amount of space either within the small through-hole or in the vicinity of the entrance to the port. The tool provides the user with direct control of the expansion and separation of a target area. The moving parts of the tool have a closed configuration with a narrow profile for insertion/removal and an open configuration obtained using a remotely-controlled, compact pivot mechanism that provides a broad enlargement capability for the retraction jaws. A pantograph mechanism with input pivots and output pivots is coupled between the retraction jaws and a compound cable (e.g., Bowden cable). A handle is coupled to the other end of the compound cable for displacing the inner wire along the outer tube.
Drainage Catheter System Including a Hub
A drainage device may include a catheter including a proximal end and a distal end. The drainage device may further include a hub coupled to the proximal end of the catheter. The hub may include a fastener element configured to secure the distal end of the catheter. In some aspects, the fastener element may be a hinged element. In some aspects, the drainage device may further include a puncture element including a tip and an expander portion. In still other aspects, the puncture element may also include an attachment portion.
