SURGICAL RETRACTOR DEVICE TO PROTECT UNDERLYING TISSUE
20190223864 · 2019-07-25 ·

A surgical retractor device holds back underlying tissue from a tissue wall when suturing through the tissue wall with a suture passer. The retractor device comprises a barrier material having an upper barrier surface for spanning between the tissue wall and the underlying tissue and which is resistant to being punctured by the suture passer. The barrier material is operable between a working position in which the upper barrier surface occupies a first prescribed area and can be positioned between the tissue wall and the underlying tissue, and a collapsed position in which the barrier material is manipulated relative to the working position such that the upper barrier surface occupies a second prescribed area that is less than the first prescribed area such that the barrier material can pass through an incision in the tissue wall.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR PARTLY ISOLATING A TARGET BIOLOGICAL STRUCTURE

The present disclosure relates to devices and methods for partly isolating a target biological structure. The device may include a main body comprising a front face and a rear face, the main body having a proximal end and a distal end. The distal end may be arcuate in a first state and may be substantially planar in a second state. The device may further include one or more balloons disposed on the distal end of the main body. Each of the one or more balloons is deflated in the first state and each of the one or more balloons is inflated in the second state. The distal end of the main body is configured to deform to be substantially planar when each of the one or more balloons are inflated in the second state.

Multi-Ply Retractor/Stabilizer And Wound Exposure Device And Method Of Use
20190159768 · 2019-05-30 ·

A multi-ply adhesive retraction device is provided which comprises a top layer, a backing layer and a stretchable middle layer between the top and backing layers. A middle-ply adhesive applied to substantially the entirety of the middle layer bottom surface to removably adhere the backing layer to the middle layer bottom surface. The device includes at least one bottom ply tab integral with the device which is operable to remove at least a portion of the backing layer from the middle layer to expose the adhesive of the middle layer. Additionally, the device includes at least one top ply tab which is operable to remove the top layer from the middle layer. The device can be applied pre-operatively, and then the top layer can be removed post-operatively to remain in place during healing of, for example, an incision site.

Pannus apron and method for accessing a surgical site

An apron formed from a gel-infused section of foam with a generally pentagonal shape approximately one inch thick with at least one surface exhibiting a coefficient of friction sufficient to releasably adhere the foam to a portion of human anatomy. The section of foam is suspended between four straps extending beyond the periphery of the foam member, each strap defining a length of at least thirty inches and including longitudinally opposing ends relative to the foam member with hook and loop material that permit the releasable attachment of the straps to a proximal mounting substrate, such as the railings of a conventional surgical bed. A method of manipulating a portion of the human anatomy with such an apron is also included.

The invention comprises an apparatus (10) for covering an exposed end of a severed sternum, comprising a strip (12) operative to cover the exposed end and pliable portions (14) which are able to be manually deformed over sides of the exposed end so as to retain the strip (12) against the exposed end to stop or at least reduce flow of blood from the exposed end.

Wound retractor device

A wound protector and retractor device 1 comprises a sleeve 2, a distal member provided by a distal ring 3 of resilient material and a proximal member provided by a proximal ring 4. The sleeve 2 is led around the ring 3 and is free to move axially relative to the distal ring 3 somewhat in the manner of a pulley. The proximal ring 4 is fixed to the sleeve 2, in this case at the proximal inner end thereof. The sleeve 2 terminates in a handle or gripping portion which is reinforced by a gripping ring 15. The sleeve extends from the proximal ring 4 and the distal ring 3 is contained between inner and outer layers 2a, 2b of the sleeve 2. The resilient distal ring 3 is scrunched up and inserted through the incision 6. The sleeve 2 is then pulled upwardly. On pulling of the sleeve 2 upwardly the outer layer 2b is pulled up while the inner layer 2a is drawn around the proximal ring 3. This results in shortening the axial extent between the proximal ring 4 and the distal ring 3, tensioning the sleeve and applying a retraction force to the margins of the incision 6. As the incision is being retracted the margins are also protected by the sleeve. On retraction, an access port is provided, for example for a surgeon to insert his hand and/or an instrument to perform a procedure. The device may be used as a retractor in open surgery or as a base for a valve/seal to allow it to be used in hand assisted laparoscopic surgery or for instrument access or hand access generally.

BIDIRECTIONAL CROSS-MIDLINE RETRACTOR/STABILIZER FOR EXCESSIVE AND/OR REDUNDANT TISSUE

The retractor/stabilizer comprises a body having a top edge, side edges and a bottom edge. A tab portion is associated with the removable panel, such that the backing layer remains with the tab portion and the tab portion can be used to remove at least a portion of the backing layer from the retractor/stabilizer body. The retractor/stabilizer additionally includes at least one protected grasping/holding area located at an edge or corner of said retractor/holding area as the backing layer is removed from the body to provide a protected holding area once the backing layer has been removed from the body.
