TISSUE CLAMP AND IMPLANTATION METHOD
A surgical clamp for aligning the margins of incised or wounded tissue has jaws with parallel clamping faces, and a handle for manipulating the clamp to align the margins of the tissue. The jaws are in a normally closed position, however they can be opened by compressing the handle to open the jaws. Prongs project from the inferior surface of the jaws. The clamp is positioned in a desired position over the margins of a wound to be closed, the prongs engage the margins of the wound to be aligned, and the jaws are closed by releasing compressive force on the handle. As the jaws close the prongs help move the tissue into alignment. Suture guide slots through the jaws assist in the placement of precisely placed sutures across the incision. The disclosed surgical clamp is particularly suited for selectively closing and reopening surgical incisions, such as a sclerotomy incision in the eye. Methods are disclosed for using the clamp during intraocular and other surgical or minimally invasive procedures. In one example the clamp is used during implantation into the retina of a scaffold on which choroid and retinal pigment epithelium cells and retina grow in a three-dimensional matrix that mimics the native structure of the retina.
Gonioscopes
Gonioscope devices are disclosed herein that are configured to enable a medical professional to view structure inside the eye that is ordinarily hidden from normal view. The gonioscope can be an integrally molded single piece that includes both a handle and a gonioscopic optical element. The proximal surface can have a viewing area and a light diffusing area. A recess can provide access to a wound site on the eye while the gonioscope is used for viewing. The handle can be configured to encourage proper alignment of the gonioscope with the eye. The gonioscope can provide an optical fixation point for the subject to focus on to facilitate proper alignment of the eye. The gonioscope can have one or more retention elements configured to engage the tissue of the eye around the contact surface to stabilize the gonioscope. The gonioscope can couple to a lid speculum.
ILLUMINATION ASSEMBLY FOR USE DURING EYE SURGERY
An ocular lighting assembly (10) including an anchor (16) and a plurality of light guides (14). The anchor is configured to mount to a surface of an eye (30) and to maintain the position of the plurality of discrete light guides. The plurality of light guides are arranged to guide light from a light source into the interior of the eye.
Apparatus for illuminating an eye
The present invention provides an apparatus for illuminating the eye. This illumination may be by lamellar illumination, scleral scatter and retro illumination or a combination thereof. The apparatus comprises a speculum assembly and at least one light emitter assembly. The speculum assembly is adapted for magnetic attachment and includes a pair of flexible retractor arms extending from a speculum handle, each retractor arm including a retractor located distally from the speculum handle. The light emitter assembly is adapted for magnetic attachment and includes at least one flexible extension extending from a battery and circuit housing. The flexible extension includes a terminal optic emitter for adjusting the angle of inclination of light emitted therefrom. The speculum assembly and the light emitter assembly are magnetically mated together at one or more points of magnetic contact.
Eyelid speculum
An eyelid speculum used to hold the eyelids of a patient's eye open during a medical procedure includes two retractors which are configured to engage the edge of a patient's eyelid and a central opening between the retractors which permits the medical practitioner to view the cornea of a patient's eye during a medical procedure. The eyelid speculum can be provided in a sterile medical kit.
Iris Shield
Apparatus and methods, and uses of apparatus, for preventing prolapse of iris tissue, through a surgical opening in the eye during eye surgery. Early in the surgery, one or more surgical openings are made in the eye, and a flexible biocompatible iris shield is inserted, through a such opening, into the anterior chamber and placed in a position whereby the iris shield overlies the iris anteriorly, adjacent each surgical opening and is positioned between the iris and any surgical openings. If/when the pressure inside the anterior chamber increases during surgery, any anterior movement of the iris toward the cornea or sclera in response to such pressure, moves the iris shield in an anterior direction, such that the iris shield remains between the iris and the surgical opening. Thus, the iris shield blocks the surgical opening and prevents movement of eye material, e.g. iris tissue, to and through the surgical opening.
Control device, control method, and microscope device for operation
Provided is a control device including control circuitry configured to control a position and an attitude of a microscope by driving an arm that supports the microscope on the basis of a captured image of a surgical operating site photographed by the microscope during a surgical operation so that a position and attitude condition is satisfied. The position and attitude condition is a condition that prescribes a position and an attitude of the microscope with respect to the surgical operating site to obtain a desired captured image corresponding to the position and attitude condition.
MICRO-STUD FORMULATION PREPARING AND OCULOPATHY TREATING AND PREVENTING
Disclosed are an ophthalmic micro-stud formulation, a process for preparing the same and a method for treating and preventing oculopathy with the same. The ophthalmic micro-stud formulation comprises a drug-loading part as a head of the micro-stud, a lubrication part as a bottom of the micro-stud, and a soluble carrier material, wherein the lubrication part is attached to the soluble carrier material.
Tissue Securing Device And Method Of Use
This disclosure relates to a medical device. The medical device comprises a first and a second component. The first component comprises a first portion having a first handle part and a second portion having a grip. The second component is linked to the first component and is configured to be in communication with the first component to be actuated from an open to a closed position. The second component defines a third portion and a fourth portion, the third portion defining a second handle part and the fourth portion defining a second grip that is configured to grip a tissue in combination with the first grip portion of the first component. In certain embodiments, the first component or second component comprises a substantially straight member attached distally from the grip.
Devices for Intraocular Surgery
An anterior chamber maintainer (ACM) is fastened to the cornea of a patient's eye at one or more, or potentially two or more, points of contact. The ACM can be inserted through a first and a second incision. The ACM can be fastened to each of the two incisions using fasteners. The ACM includes openings to provide irrigation solution to maintain the volume of the patient's eye during cataract surgery. The shape of the openings can be customized to reduce the amount of turbulence caused by the irrigation solution.
