The present invention relates to an acidic aqueous composition for coating metallic surfaces, particularly of aluminium materials, that comprises, besides water and optionally further components, a) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of organoalkoxysilanes, organosilanols, polyorganosilanols, organosiloxanes and polyorganosiloxanes, b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and aluminium compounds and silicon complex fluoride, and c) at least one copolymer which is stable at least in a segment of the pH range below 6 and which comprises, in alternating configuration, monomer units containing at least one carboxylic and/or phosphonic acid group and monomer units containing no acid group. The invention further relates to a corresponding coating method and to the use of the substrates coated by this method.

A method for treating a metal material to make a surface portion hydrophobic. The method includes oxidizing an untreated surface portion of the metal material to form an oxidized surface portion. The untreated surface portion has metal atoms. The oxidizing step forming bonds between the metal atoms and oxygen atoms. The method further includes doping the oxidized surface portion with a liquid containing a fluorine-containing salt to form a fluorinated surface portion. The doping step forming bonds between fluorine atoms and at least a portion of the metal atoms and the oxygen atoms. The fluorinated surface portion is hydrophobic.

Disclosed herein are systems for treating a substrate. The system may include a cleaner composition, a deoxidizing composition comprising a Group IVA metal and/or a Group IVB metal and free fluoride and having a pH of 1.0 to 3.0, and/or a seal composition. The system may also include a coating composition. The cleaner composition, deoxidizing composition, and/or seal composition may comprise a homopolymer or a copolymer comprising a phosphorous-containing monomeric subunit m1. Also disclosed is a deoxidizing composition comprising a Group IVA metal and a Group IVB metal and free fluoride and having a pH of 1.0 to 3.0. Also disclosed are methods of treating a substrate. Also disclosed are treated substrates.

METHOD FOR ANTI-CORROSION TREATMENT OF A METAL SURFACE WITH REDUCED PICKLING MATERIAL

A process for anticorrosion treatment of a metallic surface, including bringing the surface into successive contact with the an alkaline or acidic cleaner composition, a first rinsing composition, optionally a second rinsing composition, an acidic conversion composition, optionally a third rinsing composition, and a composition including a (meth)acrylate- and/or epoxide-based cathodic electrophoretic coating. At least one of the compositions includes at least one compound of the formula R.sup.1O—(CH.sub.2).sub.x—Z—(CH.sub.2).sub.y—OR.sup.2. R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each, independently of one another, H or an HO—(CH.sub.2).sub.w— group with w≥2. X and y are each, independently of one another, from 1 to 4 and Z is an S atom or a C—C triple bond. An aqueous composition for reducing corrosive removal of material in anticorrosion treatment of metallic surfaces is disclosed.

An aqueous composition for reducing corrosive removal of material in anticorrosion treatment of metallic surfaces is disclosed.

ALTERNATIVE COMPOSITION AND ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR EFFECTIVELY PHOSPHATING METAL SURFACES

Described herein is an alternative acidic, aqueous composition for effectively phosphating metallic surfaces, which includes, besides zinc ions, manganese ions, phosphate ions and, preferably, nickel ions, at least one accelerator of a formula R.sub.1R.sub.2R.sub.3C—NO.sub.2 where each of the substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 on the carbon atom is selected, independently of the others, from the group consisting of hydroxymethyl, 1-hydroxyethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 1-hydroxypropyl, 2-hydroxypropyl, 3-hydroxypropyl, 1-hydroxy-1-methyl ethyl and 2-hydroxy-1-methylethyl. Also described herein are a method for producing such a composition, an alternative method for phosphating metallic surfaces, and a method of using phosphate coatings produced accordingly.
