COATINGS TO PREVENT CUTTER LOSS IN STEEL BODY PDC DOWNHOLE TOOLS
Methods of preventing or reducing cutter loss in a steel body PDC drilling tool may include applying a hardfacing layer on a surface of a PDC cutter pocket to form a covered PDC cutter pocket, the hardfacing layer comprising a metal binder and coated tungsten carbide particles; and bonding a PDC cutter into the covered PDC cutter pocket with a brazing material. Steel body PDC drilling tools may include a steel body, a PDC cutter, a PDC cutter pocket, and a hardfacing layer. Methods of preventing or reducing cutter loss in a steel body PDC drilling tool may include applying a hardfacing layer on a surface of a PDC cutter pocket of the steel body PDC drilling tool; applying a coated buffering layer on the hardfacing layer to form a coated PDC cutter pocket; and bonding the PDC cutter into the coated PDC cutter pocket with a brazing material.

A method of coating includes applying a metallic coating slurry without a filler to a component; draining the metallic coating slurry; drying the metallic coating slurry to drive off the organic binder; and heat treating the component.
THERMAL BARRIER SYSTEM WITH BOND COAT BARRIER
A coating system disposed on a surface of a substrate is provided. The coating system includes a bond coating on the surface of the substrate, a protective coating on the bond coating, a thermal barrier coating on the protective coating, and a protective agent disposed within at least some of the voids of the thermal barrier coating. The protective coating is constructed from a ceramic material, and the thermal barrier coating defines a plurality of elongated surface-connected voids. Methods are also generally provided for forming such a coating system.
FUEL INJECTOR FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A vehicle component includes a surface that is configured to contact a fuel containing ethanol and zinc ions. A sacrificial carbon layer is disposed on the surface. The sacrificial carbon layer has a thickness of greater than or equal to about 250 nm to less than or equal to about 5 μm. The sacrificial carbon layer includes carbon that is configured to complex and solubilize ZnO deposited on the surface, wherein the ZnO forms from the zinc ions carried by the fuel.
Cylinder liners with adhesive metallic layers and methods of forming the cylinder liners
A coated cylinder liner 20 comprises a wear resistant layer 22, such as a DLC coating, and a metallic adhesive layer 24, such as chromium or titanium, deposited on an inner surface 26 thereof. The layers 22, 24 each have a thickness t.sub.w, t.sub.a varying by not more than 5% along at least 70% of the length of the inner surface 26. The metallic adhesive layer 24 is deposited by sputtering a consumable metallic electrode 28 onto the inner surface 26. The sputtering can be magnetron sputtering. The consumable metallic electrode 28 can include a hollow opening 40 with orifices 50 for providing a carrier gas into the deposition chamber 52. In addition, the inner surface 26 of the cylinder liner 20 can provide the deposition chamber 52 by sealing a first opening 36 and second opening 38 of the cylinder liner 20.
Sliding element for use in internal combustion engine
A sliding element for use in an internal combustion engine may include a ferrous base having a peripheral sliding surface covered by a protective surface layer, the protective surface layer including at least one nitride applied via at least one of physical vapour deposition and a nitrided layer. The peripheral sliding surface may have a diamond like carbon (DLC) coating disposed thereon. The coating may include at least one of (a) one or more transition layers composed of WC1-x and (b) an adhesive layer of metallic chromium with a crystal structure. The coating may include an intermediate layer of metal DLC, the metal may be tungsten in a multilayer structure of a-C:H:W and a-C:H, and an outer layer of metal-free DLC.
Sliding member and method for producing same
A sliding member includes: a base; a chromium-based hard chromium plated layer formed on the surface of the base; a hard carbon layer that is mainly composed of carbon element and is formed on the hard chromium plated layer. The hydrogen concentration of the hard chromium plated layer is equal to or less than 150 mass ppm. A method for producing the sliding member involves heating the surface of the base on which the chromium-based hard chromium plated layer has been formed at a temperature of 250° C. or more so that the hydrogen concentration of the hard chromium plated layer is equal to or less than 150 mass ppm, and thereafter forming the hard carbon layer mainly composed of carbon element on the hard chromium plated layer.
Coated cutting tool and a method of producing a coated cutting tool
The present disclosure relates to a coated cutting tool including a substrate and a coating disposed on the substrate, wherein the coating includes a layer of Ti.sub.xZr.sub.yAl.sub.(1-x-y)N, where 0<x≦0.3, 0.2≦y≦0.8 and 0.1≦(1-x-y)≦0.7. The disclosure further relates to a method of producing such a coated cutting tool, and to a cutting insert forming a coated cutting tool.
COATED CUTTING TOOL
A coated cutting tool has a hard coating on a surface of a base material. The hard coating is a nitride of Al, Cr, and Si in which Al is 50 atom % or more, Cr is 30 atom % or more, and Si is 1 atom % or more and 5 atom % or less. The hard coating contains 0.02 atom % or less of Ar, and the atomic ratio A and the atomic ratio B of nitrogen satisfy the relationship of 1.02≤B/A≤1.10, and a diffraction peak originating from the (111) plane of a face-centered cubic lattice structure shows the maximum intensity. In the cross-sectional observation of the hard coating, the number of droplets having an equivalent circle diameter of 3 μm or more is less than 1 per 100 μm.sup.2. The surface of the hard coating has an arithmetical mean curvature Spc value of 5000 or less.
CMAS RESISTANT THERMAL BARRIER COATING SYSTEM
An article may include a substrate and a coating system on the substrate. The coating system may include a thermal barrier coating (TBC) layer and a CMAS resistant layer on the TBC layer. The CMAS layer includes a rare-earth (RE) monosilicate composition including a plurality of RE metal cations, wherein RE monosilicate composition is configured to react with CMAS to form a reaction product including a RE apatite phase with a RE.sub.2O.sub.3.SiO.sub.2 composition, wherein the RE of the RE.sub.2O.sub.3.SiO.sub.2 composition includes at least one of the plurality of RE metal cations of the RE monosilicate.
