Orthopedic staple insertion
A multi-staple inserter and drill guide, and methods of use thereof, are disclosed therein. The orthopedic staples can also be used in addition to interfragmentary screws to apply further compression of the bone fragments.
Fusion cage with in-line single piece fixation
Methods for securing a intervertebral cage to one or more levels of the spine with fixation. The fixation, which is typically a staple, is intended to be driven perpendicular to the proximal face of the cage and in-line with the inserter. After the cage is placed and positioned according to surgeon preference, a single piece fixation clip is then deployed and fixed in a manner that produces a zero-profile device.
Shape memory implants and a method and apparatus for the loading and implanting thereof
An orthopedic fixation system includes an implant and an implant insertion device. The implant transitions between a natural shape and an insertion shape. The implant includes a bridge defining a slot with a first end and a second end and first and second anchoring members extending from the bridge. The implant insertion device moves between a loaded position and an unloaded position. The implant insertion device in its loaded position inserts through the slot of the bridge and engages the bridge at the first and second ends of the slot such that the implant insertion device constrains the implant in its insertion shape. The implant insertion device in its unloaded position releases the implant.
EXTRACTION DEVICE FOR BONE STAPLES
An extraction system for bone staples provided with a first and a second element, comprising a main gripping body having a distal end and a proximal end. The device comprises, in addition, a central rod provided with a proximal end and a distal end, the latter adapted to couple with the first element of the staple. The central rod slides axially within the main gripping body between a first position and a second position by means of suitable movement means. The device has a plurality of abutment elements protruding in the axial direction from the distal end of the main body, which are arranged circumferentially around the central rod, adapted to act on the second element of the staple to obtain, in cooperation with the movement of the central rod, the separation of the second element of the staple from the first element of the staple and the removal thereof.
Bio-Zipper Surgical Closure Device
The present invention relates to bio-zipper surgical closure devices configured to provide tension-free support of an incision throughout the healing process. Further, the present invention provides a surgical closure device to be used for urethral tubular closure during a urethroplasty. The present invention relates to methods of using the surgical closure device for the closure of various wounds such as urethral tubular closure during a urethroplasty.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR JOINING BONES
Apparatus and methods are described for use in securing a first bone relative to a second bone using a pair of surgical staples or, alternatively, a surgical staple and a bone screw. When a pair of staples are used, one of the legs of one of the staples may pass between the legs of the another of the staples. When a staple and a bone screw are used, the bone screw may pass between the legs of the staple. A guide tool can be used during the drilling of the holes for the legs of the staples or the legs of the staple and a bone screw. The guide tool provides guides for drilling guide holes for the staples or for the screw and staple. The guides can be fixed relative to each other during drilling of the guide holes.
Devices, systems, and methods for repairing soft tissue and attaching soft tissue to bone
Devices, systems and/or methods for repairing soft tissue adjacent a soft tissue repair site. In one embodiment, a repair device includes an anchor member, a capture member and one or more flexible members. The anchor member includes a base with at least four legs extending integrally from the base, the at least four legs configured to be moveable from a straight first position to a formed second position. The capture member is configured to be coupled to the anchor member such that the at least four legs of the anchor member move around structural portions of the capture member with the at least four legs of the anchor member in the formed second position. The one or more flexible members are coupled to the base of the anchor member, the one or more flexible members extending at least partially along the base of the anchor member.
Methods of using tissue anchors having bi-directional arrays of barbed pins for joining together parallel tissue layers
A method of joining together two tissue layers includes positioning a tissue anchor over a first tissue layer. The tissue anchor includes a plate having top and bottom surfaces, an array of first pins projecting from the bottom surface of the plate that oppose the first tissue layer, and an array of second pins projecting from the top surface of the plate that face away from the first tissue layer. A second tissue layer is placed over the first tissue layer and the tissue anchor so that the second pins oppose the second tissue layer. The second tissue layer is pressed onto the tissue anchor and toward the first tissue layer so that the first pins advance into the first tissue layer and the second pins advance into the second tissue layer for joining together the first and second tissue layers. The plate has second pin apertures and the second pins are free to slide and move independently of one another within the second pin apertures.
SURGICAL FASTENING INSTRUMENT WITH TWO-PART SURGICAL FASTENERS
A surgical fastening instrument includes an elongate shaft extending from a handle. An end effector is coupled to one end of the elongate shaft. The end effector has a first jaw with retainer strips disposed thereon. Each retainer strip includes rows of receptacles and each receptacle has a passageway leading to a chamber formed in the first jaw. The end effector also includes a second jaw with fastener strips disposed thereon. The first jaw is pivotally coupled to the second jaw. Each fastener strip includes rows of fasteners and each fastener is slidably positioned on a lance extending from a surface of the second jaw. The lances are aligned with the receptacles and each fastener has barbs configured to be retained in one of the chambers.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR TREATING THE LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE
Disclosed are embodiments of a method for occluding a left atrial appendage (LAA) and other cavities or openings within a body. Some embodiments of the method can include an implant configured to be deployed within the LAA or other cavity, configured to be expanded or moved against a wall portion of the LAA or other cavity, and configured to twist at least a portion of the LAA or other cavity when the implant is rotated. Thereafter, one or more securing elements, staples, sutures, or other fasteners can be implanted in the gathered tissue to hold the tissue in the gathered state, thereby occluding the opening of the LAA or other cavity. In some embodiments, the opening of the LAA or other cavity can be occluded by elongating or otherwise reshaping the opening using an implant device, and securing the opening in the occluded state.
