PROCESS AND PLANT FOR PRODUCING METHANOL AND CARBON MONOXIDE

The present invention specifies a process and a plant for simultaneous production of methanol and pure carbon monoxide which includes synthesis gas production by partial oxidation of an input stream containing hydrocarbons and subsequent methanol synthesis. According to the invention carbon dioxide is separated from the raw synthesis gas using a sorption apparatus and at least partially introduced into the input gas for the methanol synthesis reactor.

System and method for recovering gas containing CO2 and H2S

The system is provided with: a first heat exchanger which is interposed at an intersection between a rich solution supply line and a lean solution supply line, which has absorbed CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2S extracted from a bottom portion of an absorber, and a regenerated absorbent; a second heat exchanger which is interposed at an intersection between a semi-rich solution supply line and a branch line branched at the branch portion C from the lean solution supply line, and the lean solution; a merging portion which merges a branch line configured to supply the lean solution after heat exchange with the lean solution supply line; and a flow rate adjusting valve which is interposed in the lean solution supply line to adjust the distribution amount of the lean solution.

According to the present invention, organic material is converted to biogas through anaerobic digestion and the biogas is purified to yield a combustible fluid feedstock comprising methane. A fuel production facility utilizes or arranges to utilize combustible fluid feedstock to generate renewable hydrogen that is used to hydrogenate crude oil derived hydrocarbons in a process to make transportation or heating fuel. The renewable hydrogen is combined with crude oil derived hydrocarbons that have been desulfurized under conditions to hydrogenate the liquid hydrocarbon with the renewable hydrogen or alternatively, the renewable hydrogen can be added to a reactor operated so as to simultaneously desulfurize and hydrogenate the hydrocarbons. The present invention enables a party to receive a renewable fuel credit for the transportation or heating fuel.

Gliding arc plasmatron reactor with reverse vortex for the conversion of hydrocarbon fuel into synthesis gas

A reactor for reforming a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, and associated processes and systems, are described herein. In one example, a two stage process is disclosed in which a first reactor is coupled to a second stage reactor having a reaction volume greater than the first reactor. In the first reactor, the liquid hydrocarbon fuel is partially reformed and thereafter is inputted into the second stage reactor for complete partial oxidation. The reaction product is at last partially synthesis gas, a mixture of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, as well as other low hydrocarbons such as methane, ethylene, ethane, and acetylene. The low hydrocarbons can be reformed further in a solid oxide fuel cell. A portion of the gaseous, rotating contents of the second stage reactor may be input into the first reactor to help generate and sustain rotation within the first reactor.

The present invention is an improvement in a number of ways of two issued patents identified in the preamble of the Specification which follows. Such improvement will yield a more reliable process that uses coal and other hydrocarbons but avoids the discharge of hazardous pollutants into the atmosphere and lowers investment costs. This invention offers a unique and comprehensive solution that makes possible the prevention of the ill-effects to health and environment while at the same time would also prevent the closure of badly needed power generation facilities that still provide some 40% of the electricity generated in this country. The herein comprehensive solution converts six pollutants into valuable co-products while low-cost, efficient, electric power is generated to result in attracting industries that will help keep badly needed jobs. This invention is also applicable to other disciplines.

PROCESS FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN

A process for the production of hydrogen comprising the steps of subjecting a gaseous mixture comprising a hydrocarbon and steam and having a steam to carbon ratio of at least 2.6:1, to steam reforming in a gas-heated reformer followed by autothermal reforming with an oxygen-rich gas in an autothermal reformer to generate a reformed gas mixture, increasing the hydrogen content of the reformed gas mixture by subjecting it to one or more water-gas shift stages in a water-gas shift unit to provide a hydrogen-enriched reformed gas, cooling the hydrogen-enriched reformed gas and separating condensed water therefrom, passing the resulting de-watered hydrogen-enriched reformed gas to a carbon dioxide separation unit to provide a carbon dioxide gas stream and a crude hydrogen gas stream, and passing the crude hydrogen gas stream to a purification unit to provide a purified hydrogen gas and a fuel gas.
