An apparatus for coupling two elongated tissue portions of a subject, such as two portions of a ruptured tendon, comprising first and second repair elements, each repair element comprising a distal end configured for insertion into the tissue portion, an elongated body configured to extend axially within the tissue portion and to engage the tissue, and a proximal end. In some embodiments, at least one of the first and second repair elements comprises, at the proximal end, an integrally formed connector for coupling the proximal end of the first repair element to a proximal end of the second repair element, to attach between the two tissue portions.

DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS FOR REPAIRING SOFT TISSUE AND ATTACHING SOFT TISSUE TO BONE

Devices, systems and/or methods for repairing soft tissue adjacent a repair site. In one embodiment, a repair device is delivered with a delivery device system configured to move a cartridge with the repair device disposed therein toward an anvil with soft tissue positioned thereon. The delivery device linearly moves the cartridge toward the anvil with a worm drive positioned within a housing by rotating a thumb wheel disposed around the worm drive. Such linear movement is provided with a finger element extending from the worm drive that is configured to cooperate with an internal surface of the thumb wheel. With this arrangement, upon rotating the thumb wheel, the worm drive rotates with the finger element engaged with the internal surface of the thumb wheel to linearly move the cartridge toward the anvil.

A system for dynamically controlling a weld profile includes a generator, and end effector, a sensor, and a computer. The generator is configured to supply energy based on the weld profile. The end effector operatively connected to the generator and configured to apply vibratory energy and pressure to an object. The sensor configured to provide an output with respect to the object. The computer configured to monitor the output and change the weld profile of the generator based on the output.

SUTURE METHODS AND DEVICES

A barbed suture including a body with barbs on the periphery, a pointed end, and an anchor at one end to resist movement of the suture in the direction of the pointed end is provided. One or more limbs on the anchor may be provided, which may be arcuate, of varying lengths, and of varying distribution about the periphery of the suture body. Other anchor designs are provided. Methods of placing single-directional and bi-directional barbed sutures to approximate the tissue on each side of a wound and to position and support tissue in the absence of a wound, as in cosmetic surgery, are provided, and may include terminal J-stitches or S-stitches. Methods of placement may be made with sharp, pointed ends, which may be needles, or Insertion devices. Sinusoidal patterns of sutures that have amplitudes generally perpendicular to the resultant holding force of the suture are provided.
