11718535 · 2023-08-08 · ·

An ammonia synthesis converter for small production units which provides full access for routine maintenance and catalyst replacement while providing adequate catalyst pressure drop to ensure kinetic performance and reduce heat leak from the catalyst beds. A shell has a removable top head and an annular basket is removably mounted in the shell. First and second catalyst beds are disposed in the annular zone of the basket for axial down-flow in series. A quench gas is introduced into effluent from the first catalyst bed and the resulting mixture into a top of the second catalyst bed. A feed-effluent interchanger in the inner basket zone is adapted to receive effluent from the second catalyst bed and indirectly heat a feed to the first catalyst bed. Also, methods of operating and servicing the converter.

Method for producing syngas, as well as syngas cooling assembly and use

A method of producing synthesis gas in a dual pressure level ammonia plant having a first synthesis section operated in once through fashion at a first relatively lower high pressure and having a second synthesis section operated in recirculating fashion at a second relatively higher high pressure. In the first synthesis section downstream of an OT reactor of the first synthesis section the synthesis gas is cooled using cooling medium at a pressure below the first high pressure, wherein the cooling medium is provided at a pressure below the first high pressure level by means of a medium pressure steam generator or wherein the cooling is effected by means of the medium pressure steam generator. The disclosure further relates to a synthesis gas cooling assembly in such a dual pressure level ammonia plant and at least one plant component for providing or for utilizing the cooling medium.

Ammonia plant synthesis gas compressor train

An ammonia plant synthesis gas compressor train includes a steam turbine; and a compression unit that compresses a synthesis gas by being rotationally driven by the steam turbine. The compression unit includes a rotary shaft that rotates around an axis, and a plurality of impellers that are provided on the rotary shaft at intervals in a direction of the axis and are rotated integrally with the rotary shaft to pump a gas outward in a radial direction to compress the gas. In at least one of the impellers, a maximum operating peripheral speed at a radially outermost position of the impeller is within a range of 290 m/s to 390 m/s, a yield strength is 827 MPa or less, and a Brinell hardness is 311 or less.

AMMONIA MANUFACTURING APPARATUS AND AMMONIA MANUFACTURING METHOD

Included are: a raw material component storage unit that stores the raw material component supplied to the ammonia synthesis unit; a high-pressure raw material component storage unit that stores the raw material component at a pressure higher than a pressure at which the raw material component is stored in the raw material component storage unit; and a surplus electric power processing unit including a high-pressure raw material component transfer unit that boosts and transfers the raw material component from the raw material component storage unit to the high-pressure raw material component storage unit, and an expander that converts pressure energy of the raw material component supplied from the high-pressure raw material component storage unit into motive power to generate power.

Cooled axial flow converter

In a cooled axial flow converter, in which process gas passes from an outer annulus via a catalyst bed, wherein the process gas is converted to a product, to an inner centre tube, the catalyst bed comprises at least one module comprising at least one catalyst layer. Feed means are arranged to provide a flow of process gas from the outer annulus to an inlet part of one or more modules, and collector means are arranged to provide a flow of product stream of converted process gas, which has passed axially down the catalyst bed of one or more of the modules to the centre tube. At least one of the one or more modules comprises one or more cooling plates arranged to be cooled by a cooling fluid.

A plant and a method are provided in which a first feed including hydrocarbons is subjected to electrical steam methane reforming (e-SMR) to generate a first syngas stream. An upgrading section receives the syngas stream and generates a first product stream and an off-gas stream from the syngas stream. A power generator receives at least a portion of the off-gas stream and/or a portion of said first product stream from the upgrading section and/or a portion of said first feed and generates a second electricity flow. At least a portion of the second electricity flow is arranged to provide at least a part of the first electricity flow to the e-SMR reactor.
