AMMONIA AND NUTRIENT ION RECOVERY FROM MANURE WASTEWATER AND ELECTROSYNTHESIS OF VALUE-ADDED CHEMICALS USING ION SELECTIVE REDOX MATERIAL
20250059070 · 2025-02-20 ·

A method for recovering NH.sub.4.sup.+ or K.sup.+ ions from manure wastewater is disclosed. The method includes contacting manure wastewater having organic matter and salts with an ion-selective redox material with ionic channels. The manure wastewater reduces the ion-selective redox material which spontaneously takes up NH.sub.4.sup.+ or K.sup.+ ions from the manure wastewater. NH.sub.4.sup.+-or K.sup.+ may be released electrochemically and paired with the simultaneous electrosynthesis of value-added chemicals.

The system can include hydrodynamic cavitation; acoustic sonication; electrochemical oxidation; in-line static mixing; and supplemental reagent precursors to create powerful oxidizing conditions within the equipment, and oxidants by the system that destroy said contaminants.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR REMOVING CONTAMINANTS AND NUTRIENTS FROM A FLUID
20250051195 · 2025-02-13 ·

A method of removing charged contaminants from a fluid is provided. The method may include providing a filtration membrane in a fluid passageway, flowing a fluid through the fluid passageway and through the filtration membrane, and generating an electromagnetic field within the passageway at a location upstream from the filtration membrane to pretreat the fluid prior to the filtration membrane to enable the charged contaminants to precipitate out of solution. The method may further include generating an electric field across the filtration membrane at an amount effective to separate and degrade the charged contaminants on a first side of the filtration membrane. Methods of removing charged nutrients from a fluid are also provided.

PURIFYING DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ELIMINATION OF XENOBIOTICS IN WATER

A purifying method for photochemical elimination of xenobiotics present in water. The purifying device is used which has a photochemical reactor unit having at least one inlet for contaminated water and one outlet for purified water, it provides a flow path for continuously flowing water from said inlet to said outlet, and is equipped with a radiation source module providing ultraviolet radiation in a wavelength range ranging from 100 to 280 nm. The method includes performing ultrafiltration, thereby removing suspended and solvated macromolecular matter from the water; conducting the permeate via the at least one inlet into the photochemical reactor unit; subjecting the water flowing from said inlet to said outlet to ultraviolet radiation at wavelengths ranging from 100 to 280 nm, thereby generating hydroxyl radicals initiating degradation of said xenobiotics; and supplying air or dioxygen into the water, thereby enhancing the initiated oxidative degradation of said xenobiotics.

A system for treating wastewater, such as laundry water or car wash water, using a combination of microfiltration and/or ultrafiltration membranes and reverse osmosis. The system can use these elements to pretreat water that is then filtered by a media filter to reduce turbidity.

ELECTROCHEMICAL DEVICES OR SYSTEMS COMPRISING REDOX-FUNCTIONALIZED ELECTRODES AND USES THEREOF

Various aspects described herein relate to electrochemical devices, e.g., for separation of one or more target organic or inorganic molecules (e.g., charged or neutral molecules) from solution, and methods of using the same. In particular embodiments, the electrochemical devices and methods described herein involve at least one redox-functionalized electrode, wherein the electrode comprises an immobilized redox-species that is selective toward a target molecule (e.g., charged molecule such as ion or neutral molecule). The selectivity is based on a Faradaic/redox-activated chemical interaction (e.g., directional hydrogen binding) between the oxidized state of the redox species and a moiety of the target molecule (e.g., charged molecule such as ion or neutral molecule).
