AUTOGRAFTING TOOL WITH ENHANCED FLUTE PROFILE AND METHODS OF USE
Tools and methods for expanding a precursor hole in a host material to receive a fixture. The precursor hole is enlarged by a rotary tool having helical flutes and interposed lands. The flutes have a negative rake angle. The lands each have a working edge that cuts the host material when the tool is rotated in a cutting direction, and that condenses the host material when the tool is rotated in a densifying direction. The body of the rotary tool has a stopper section that plugs the hole when a certain depth is reached. When the tool is used with a copious wash of irrigating fluid at or below the necessary depth, hydraulic pressure builds inside the precursor hole. The hydraulic pressure can be advantageously exploited in cutting mode to autograft a slurry of host material particles into the sidewalls of the hole and create an incipient densifying crust.
Tools for Insertion of a Spinal Implant and Methods of Using Same
A surgical tool for use with a drill bit to prevent skiving at an implant insertion site on a bone includes a cannulated sleeve having a distal end defining a burr surface. The distal end may be detachable from a body of the cannulated sleeve. The tool may be used with more than one distal end, each of the distal ends defining a burr surface having a different cutting surface from the others. The tool may form a system that includes the drill bit.
SURGICAL ROBOT WITH ANTI-SKIVE FEATURE
Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed for surgical instruments, systems, and methods for preventing skiving of a drilling instrument during a robotic or robot-assisted surgery are disclosed. In one embodiment, a scan of a patient's anatomy can be performed to produce a model of the bone to be drilled into and analysis of the surface can determine if the curvature is such that, if a target trajectory for a bore were followed, skiving of the drilling instrument is likely. If so, an alternate anti-skiving trajectory can be determined. The anti-skiving trajectory of a bore differs from the target trajectory by at least one of entry point, diameter, axis, or depth.
Methods and Systems for Treating Femoroacetabular Impingement
Treating femoroacetrabular impingement. At least one example is a method comprising: monitoring, by a procedure controller, location of a first member of an acetabulofemoral joint in a three-dimensional coordinate space; tracking, by the procedure controller, an amount of bone resected from the first member of the acetabulofemoral joint by tracking a distal end of a resection device in the three-dimensional coordinate space; and controlling, by the procedure controller, a rate of resection of the resection device based on the location of the distal end of the resection device relative to a planned resection volume associated the first member of the acetabulofemoral joint.
Instrument set for spinal operations
A complete removal and reinsertion of instruments is avoided when the instruments are initially not correctly positioned during a minimally invasive operation on a bone, in particular a vertebra of the spine. This aim is achieved by an instrument set for spinal operations, including a guide rod, which has a cavity extending along the axis of the guide rod, and a guide tube, which can be received in the cavity of the guide rod, wherein the guide rod has a distal lip, which is arranged eccentrically to the cavity and/or to a center axis of the guide rod.
Disposable acetabular modular reamer and methods
Described herein are examples of orthopedic reamer heads for preparing a bone to receive an implant, as well as methods of assembling reamer heads. An illustrative example of a modular reamer head can include a body and a cutting system. The body can include a generally dome shape having an outer surface extending from an apex region to a base. The outer surface can have a recess including one or more arcuate channels that extend from the apex region towards the base of the dome. The cutting system can have one or more arcuate elements having cutting elements. One or more arcuate elements can extend from first end portions in the apex region towards second end portions proximate the base. At least a portion of the one or more arcuate elements can be located in the one or more arcuate channels to extend outward beyond the outer surface.
SURGICAL BUR
A surgical bur includes a shaft portion that rotates in a rotation direction about a rotation axial line of the surgical cutting bur, and a cutting portion that is provided at a distal end of the shaft portion. In the surgical bur, the cutting portion has a spherical shape, has abrasive grains on a surface of the cutting portion, and has a first vertical groove extending from a distal end side of the cutting portion in an axial direction.
Anti-skid surgical instrument for use in preparing holes in bone tissue
Described herein is an anti-skid surgical instrument for use in preparing holes in bone tissue. The disclosed surgical instrument provides the ability to prepare a precise hole in bone tissue during surgery (e.g., spinal surgeries and pedicle screw placement, intramedullary screw placement). The disclosed surgical instrument accomplishes precise hole placement regardless of whether the angle between the drill axis and surface of the bone tissue is perpendicular. The disclosed technology includes a flat drilling surface which is perpendicular to the surface of the body of the surgical instrument. This reduces the likelihood of the surgical instrument skidding on the surface of the bone tissue and thereby increases the precision of the hole.
Intramedullary fixation system for management of pelvic and acetabular fractures
Devices for treating a bone and methods of inserting such devices into a bone are disclosed. A device for treating a bone may include a flexible tube, a stiffening mechanism and an actuator. The flexible tube has a distal end and a proximal end. The stiffening mechanism within the flexible tube is configured to cause the flexible tube to become rigid. The actuator is configured to cause the stiffening mechanism to cause the flexible tube to become rigid in response to the actuator being actuated.
Surgical rotary tool
A rotary surgical tool is provided and has an effector or cutter that is usable to remove or otherwise modify tissue such as bone. The tool includes a motor coupled to the effector with a single piece shaft that is integral with the effector and also serves as the motor output shaft.
