A surgical instrument and method for assessing restoration of the femoral head centre is provided. The instrument comprising: a body having a first connector for attaching the body to a femoral part, and wherein the body defines a plurality of apertures therein, wherein each aperture corresponds to a respective femoral head centre arising from a respective corresponding femoral neck; and a gauge, wherein the gauge includes a pin at a first end and an arm extending transversely from the pin and wherein the pin is receivable in each of the plurality of apertures and the arm bears a scale indicating a distance from the pin. The approach seeks to provide a simple and/or easy to use approach to restoring the native femoral head position during a hip replacement surgical procedure.
COLLECTING AND HARVESTING CUT BONE FROM KERRISON RONGEUR
A collector includes a container body defining an interior containment space and having an open end for access, and a cap in covering relation to the open end and having an opening for receiving therein a distal end of a kerrison-type rongeur. An improvement includes the cap including a first plurality of scrapers in the form of fingers for engaging and dislodging cut bone from the cutting area of the distal end of the rongeur and a second plurality of scrapers in the form of wipers for engaging and dislodging cut bone from the cutting area of the distal end of the rongeur when the distal end of the rongeur is withdrawn through the opening from the collector, the second plurality being arranged so as to permit insertion of the distal end of the rongeur through the opening into the collector without engaging the distal end of the rongeur.
BONE SLIVER REMOVAL SYSTEM
A surgical tool and related methods are provided for removal of a bone sliver from a resected joint. The tool can include a housing including an upper end, a lower end, and a channel extending from the upper end to the lower end. A paddle member extends from the lower end of the housing. The paddle member includes a paddle shaft and a paddle head. The surgical tool further includes an insertion member that has a handle end, an extension that extends from the handle end, and a cutting tip. The extension is translatable within the channel such that the handle end and the cutting tip can move relative to the housing between a retracted position and an advanced position.
INTRAOSSEOUS SLIDING OSTEOTOMY SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system includes an intraosseous sliding osteotomy (ISO) plate including a body extending between a first end, a second end, a first surface, a second surface, and a perimeter wall. The body defines at least one fastener aperture extending from the first surface to the second surface. A plate handle is configured to be coupled to the ISO plate. The plate handle includes a body including a handle portion and a head portion. The head portion defines at least one aperture. A locking element includes a locking portion sized and configured to extend through the at least one aperture defined in the head portion of the plate handle to couple the plate handle to the ISO plate.
Hammertoe implant and instrument
A bone implant comprising an elongate body having a first end and a second end coupled by a shaft is disclosed. The first portion is configured to couple to a first bone. The second portion comprises a first expandable section comprising at least one expandable feature. The first expandable section is configured to be received within a reverse countersink in a second bone in a collapsed state and to expand within the reverse countersink. The expandable feature couples to a bearing surface of the reverse countersink. A surgical tool comprising a shaft and at least one expandable cutting edge is disclosed. The shaft is sized and configured to be received within a canal formed in a bone. The expandable cutting edge is formed integrally with the shaft. The expandable cutting edge is configured to expand from a collapsed position to an expanded position for forming a reverse countersink.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SURGICAL TOOL INSERTION USING MULTIAXIS FORCE AND MOMENT FEEDBACK
Devices, systems, and methods for detecting unexpected movement of a surgical instrument during a robot-assisted surgical procedure are provided. The surgical robot system may be configured to measure forces and torques experienced by the surgical instrument during the surgical procedure and determine if the forces and torques are within an acceptable range. The robot system is further configured to notify the user of the presence of the unexpected movement.
SURGICAL APPARATUS, SURGICAL SYSTEM AND METHOD OF SETTING UP A SURGICAL APPARATUS
A surgical apparatus generates energy that is input onto an appliance. The appliance is one of an implant to be implanted in human or animal bone tissue by the input of the energy, and of a tool being an ultrasonic bone cutting and/or punching tool for cutting and/or punching living human or animal bone tissue by input of energy onto the implant in a surgical operation. The apparatus includes a control device and at least one handpiece, the handpiece being equipped to be held by a surgeon during the operation and to couple the energy into the appliance. The apparatus further includes a reading device equipped to read out, from an appliance data carrier, appliance data dedicated to the appliance. The control device checks, depending on the appliance data, whether the handpiece is suitable for the appliance and chooses operating parameters depending on the appliance data.
Tibial base plate and method for attaching a tibial base plate on a tibia
A tibial base plate for attaching to a resected surface at a proximal end of a tibia is provided. The tibial base plate includes a bridge, a pair of compartments and a stem. The bridge has a first contact surface sitting on the resected surface. The compartments are disposed at opposite sides of the bridge and extend in an anterior-posterior direction to form a notch to accommodate a tibial eminence. Each of the compartments has a second contact surface sitting on the resected surface. The stem is connected to the bridge and the compartments and inset into the proximal end of the tibia. The stem has an outer surface. The outer surface is canted towards the notch as insetting into the proximal end of the tibia. The stem is engaged with a cutting slot on the resected surface into the proximal end of the tibia.
Method and Device for Causing Tooth Movement
A method of increasing movement of a tooth in a jaw having at least one tooth with an orthodontic brace thereon includes: (1) holding a handle of a device, the device having an elongate member extending from the handle and a screw tip at a distal end of the elongate member; (2) moving a sleeve along the elongate member to set a length of exposed screw tip; (3) locking the sleeve in place relative to the screw tip; (4) drilling a hole with the screw tip through a cortical bone of a jaw to increase movement of the tooth; and (5) stopping the drilling when the length of exposed screw tip has penetrated the jaw.
Method for placing implant using robotic system
A method for placing an implant on a patient in a robotic surgical procedure using a robotic system. During the robotic surgical procedure, a navigation system tracks the patient. The navigation system also provides information to the robotic system to guide movement of a cutting tool to remove material from the patient such that a cut surface is created to receive the implant. The implant is then robotically placed on the cut surface.
