Disposable torque-limiting mechanisms with an upper shank component with a torque-limiting interface, a lower shank component with a torque-limiting interface, and a rubbery spring material biasing element. Torque-limiting interfaces having a plurality of undulations arranged around an axial bore or drive socket and separated by a plurality of transition regions, with each undulation having an upslope, a peak, and a downslope. The torque-limiting interfaces are configured to engage and disengage to provide torque transmission with predetermined torque limits at various rotational speeds and for amounts of actuations while remaining within a specified operational range.

Apparatus and method to access bone marrow

An apparatus and method for penetrating bone marrow is provided. The apparatus may include a housing such as a handheld body, a penetrator assembly, a connector that releasably attaches the penetrator assembly to a drill shaft, a gear mechanism, a motor and a power supply and associated circuitry operable to power the motor. The penetrator assembly may include a removable inner trocar and an outer penetrator or needle. It may also include a grooved trocar that allows bone chips to be expelled as the apparatus is inserted into bone marrow. Various connectors are provided to attach the penetrator assembly to the drill shaft.

An attachment mechanism for a rotating surgical tool includes a mounting body defining a tool passage therein and configured for connection to a non-rotational component of the surgical tool, such that the tool passage is concentric about a rotational component of the surgical tool. The attachment mechanism further includes a ring arranged around the tool passage and rotatably connected to the mounting body. A mounting arm is attached to the ring such that rotation of the ring relative to the mounting body sets a desired circumferential position of the mounting arm relative to the tool passage, the mounting arm being configured to receive a tracking system emitter. An engagement mechanism is operable between the ring and the mounting body to maintain the desired circumferential position of the mounting arm.

REVISION KNEE ARTHROPLASTY METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS

According to one example, a provisional system for a knee arthroplasty is disclosed. The system can include any one or combination of a first provisional component, a second provisional component, a stem provisional assembly and a fastener. The first provisional component can be configured to be disposed on a resected bone surface. The second provisional component can be configured to be disposed in a first recess beneath the resected surface of the bone. The stem provisional assembly can be configured to be disposed in a second recess, the stem provisional assembly configured to be engageable in vivo to position the first provisional component on the resected surface of the bone. The fastener can be configured to couple the first provisional component, the second provisional component and the stem provisional assembly together as an assembly.

According to one example, a for revision knee arthroplasty is disclosed. According to this example, the method can include shaping a bone of a patient to create one or more recesses therein, selecting a stem provisional, disposing the stem provisional within the one or more recesses, and assembling in vivo the stem provisional with both a first provisional component configured to simulate a shape of one of a tibial tray implant or a femoral implant and a second provisional component configured to simulate a shape of at least one of a sleeve component, a cone component or a keel component of an implant.

INTRAOSSEOUS NEEDLE SETS

An intraosseous needle set is provided for penetrating a target area. The intraosseous needle set includes a cannula having a first end, a second end, and a bore. The bore may accommodate an intraosseous device, such that the intraosseous device and the cannula are operable to penetrate the target area. The bore has a length extending from the second end of the cannula through the first end of the cannula. The bore has a first cross-section with a substantially constant diameter along a majority of the length and extends from the second end of the cannula toward the first end of the cannula. The bore has a second cross-section along a minority of the length and extends from the first end of the cannula toward the second end of the cannula. The second cross-section may have a different shape than the first cross-section.

Reamer handle coupling

A coupling mechanism designed to removably attach a reamer to the distal end of a spindle or shaft is disclosed. The coupling comprises a collar having an annular sidewall that defines a collar throughbore, the collar annular sidewall comprising a plurality of spaced part first slots that at least partially extend through the sidewall and a shank disposed within the collar throughbore. The shank is constructed with a shank annular sidewall in which a plurality of spaced apart second slots at least partially extend therethrough. A bias member that provides a bias force in a distal direction that acts on the collar is incorporated within the mechanism. The collar is capable of sliding in an axial direction such that the first and second slots become aligned to secure the cross bar of a reamer therein.

A handle assembly is disclosed for firmly holding a surgical tool. The handle assembly comprises a handle and a locking mechanism attached to the handle. The locking mechanism includes a locking ring, a collet, and a compressible locking pin engageable with the locking ring and collet. The locking ring is moveable between first and second positions relative to the handle. The first position is an unlocked position whereby the locking pin is in a decompressed state relative to the locking ring and the collet. In the first position, a surgical tool may be inserted and withdrawn from the collet of the locking mechanism. The second position is a locked position whereby the locking pin is in a compressed state relative to the locking ring and the collet. In the second position, a surgical tool is anchored in the collet of the locking mechanism.
