A power tool for removing an intervertebral disc and preparing vertebral endplates is described. The power tool may include a cutting element, and the height of the cutting element may be adjustable. The cutting element may be a braided cable and may include one or more beads to enhance the effectiveness of the cable. The cutting element may have a minimum height requirement, which may not be satisfied in patients with a collapsed disc due to degenerative disc disorder. For these patients, also described are bone tamps for increasing the intervertebral distance and providing access to tissues distal to the tamp. One type of bone tamp features an inflatable balloon with an inner lumen. Another type of bone tamp includes an expanding distal end and an inner cannula. Also described is a manual expander scraper tool that is compatible with both types of bone tamp.

BONE SCREW

A bone screw, such as a pedicle screw, comprises an anchor portion and a sleeve portion, the anchor portion including an angled or curved portion and an externally threaded portion. The sleeve portion having an external thread for engaging bone, and a threaded internal bore for engaging the externally threaded portion of the anchor portion.

Articulating Rotary Cutting Tool

A rotary cutting tool including an elongated housing having a proximal end and a distal end, the elongated housing extends circumferentially around a first axis. A drive shaft disposed within the elongated housing and extending between the proximal end and the distal end and rotatable about the first axis. A cutting bit housing coupled to the distal end of the elongated housing and rotatable relative to the drive shaft about an articulation axis between a non-articulated position and one or more articulated positions. A rotary cutting bit coupled to the cutting bit housing and the drive shaft and rotatable about the articulation axis with the cutting bit housing, the rotary cutting bit and drive shaft forming a constant velocity joint.

Systems and methods for off-axis tissue manipulation

A surgical system and method for manipulating tissue. A steerable assembly comprises a steerable instrument and a deformable conduit. The steerable instrument comprises a control element and a deflectable portion operatively connected to the control element. The steerable assembly is directed through an access cannula such that at least a portion of the steerable assembly protrudes from the distal end of the access cannula. The steerable instrument is actuated to move a deflectable portion of the steerable instrument and a distal portion of the deformable conduit away from the longitudinal axis of the access cannula so that the deformable conduit assumes a deformed position. The steerable instrument is retracted from the deformable conduit.

Sternal closure system

A system including a bone punch tool and a needle guide. The bone punch tool can include a support arm having a support arm proximal portion and a support arm distal portion, a pivot arm having a pivot arm proximal portion and a pivot arm distal portion, and an arcuate punch configured to punch through bone. The pivot arm distal portion can be pivotably coupled to the support arm distal portion, such that the pivot arm proximal portion is configured to be moved away from the support arm proximal portion to extend the arcuate punch into a punch position to punch an arcuate hole through bone. The needle guide can be configured to guide a needle through the arcuate hole.

Bone harvesting

Methods and devices for harvesting cancellous bone are disclosed. The bone-harvesting device may include a cannula and a bone receptacle in communication with the cannula, wherein the cannula including a cutting surface positioned at or adjacent the distal end, the cutting surface being oriented at an angle, the angle being greater than 90 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis of the cannula, and the harvested bone is adapted to move from a position adjacent to the cutting surface through the cannula into the bone receptacle. The cutting surface of the cannula may be positioned at or adjacent the distal end, and positioned at least in part radially outward of the outer face of the cannula. The cannula may include a cutting surface positioned at or adjacent the distal end and an occluding geometry that partially occludes the distal end of the cannula adjacent the cutting surface. In addition, a suction port may be provided in communication with the bone receptacle.

BONE TIE AND PORTAL

Various systems and methods for treating the spine are provided. A portal system can be provided for treating the spine. The portal system can include a portal comprising a proximal end and a distal end, a first passageway extending between the proximal end and the distal end, a second passageway extending between the proximal end and the distal end, and a latch. The bone tie can include a head, a body section comprising one or more gears, and a fastener section comprising a ratchet.

Flexible bone tool

A flexible bone tool comprising a bone tissue removal element configured at a distal end of the tool, at least two links coupled proximally to the bone tissue removal element, the links connected to each other by a radial interference connection in which at least one radially outwards extending protrusion of a first link is received within a recess of a subsequent link. In some embodiments, the links are interconnected by a “snap-fit” connection. In some embodiments, the flexible bone tool is configured for transferring torque at a magnitude sufficient for drilling and/or reaming a bore in a bone.
