Method of using a femoral surgical instrument

A method of using an orthopedic surgical instrument assembly that includes an instrument handle configured to clamp a broach and femoral stem trial assembly. A depth stop is configured to removably couple to the instrument handle. When the broach and femoral stem trial are advanced into a medullary canal of a patient's femur, a substantially planar proximal surface of the depth stop is configured to engage the distal surface of the femur, determining the depth of the broach in the medullary canal. The proximal surface of the depth stop is parallel to the joint line, defining an oblique angle to the anatomical axis of the femur. The depth stop may be attached to the instrument handle at a number of positions to control the depth of the broach. The assembly may include a spacer plate removably coupled to the depth stop that distalizes the broach in the medullary canal.

UNICOMPARTMENTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY

A method of implanting a unicompartmental orthopedic knee implant may include positioning a tibial tray onto a resected patient's tibia, the tibial tray including a body having a joint-facing side opposite a bone-facing side, and inserting a tibial anchor guide into the body of the tibial tray, wherein the tibial anchor guide includes a slot. The method may further include forming a tibia channel in the patient's tibia by inserting a cutting device into the slot of the tibial anchor guide, removing the cutting device from the tibial anchor guide, and inserting a fixation element into the tibia channel, wherein compression is created between the bone-facing side of the body of the tibial tray and the tibia when the fixation element is inserted.

A surgical instrument includes a first member defining an axis and including an end surface and a passageway. A second member is movably disposed within the passageway and includes a tip and a plurality of spaced apart markings. The second member is movable between a first configuration in which the tip extends parallel to the axis and a second configuration in which the tip extends transverse to the axis. The end surface is aligned with a first one of the markings when the second member is in the first configuration and the end surface is aligned with a second one of the markings when the second member is in the second configuration. Methods are disclosed.

Technologies for monitoring and predicting impaction state of an orthopaedic surgical implement during an orthopaedic surgical procedure

Technologies for monitoring impaction and predicting impaction state during an orthopaedic surgical procedure include one or more impaction sensors that generate sensor data. The surgical procedure includes impaction of an orthopaedic implement such as a surgical instrument or a prosthetic component. An impaction analyzer generates an impaction state prediction with a machine learning model based on the sensor data. The impaction state prediction may include an unseated state, a seated state, and a fracture state. An impaction state user interface outputs the impaction state prediction. A model trainer may train the machine learning model with labeled sensor data.

An instrument set for installing a fusion implant into the sacroiliac joint (“SI Joint”). The apparatus comprises a working channel having an alignment means, a joint locator having a first keying means, an abrading device having a second keying means, and an implant inserter having a third keying means. The first, second, and third, keying means mate with the alignment means when the joint locator, abrading device, and implant inserter, respectively, are inserted into the working channel.

SURGICAL TOOL WITH AN ASEPTIC POWER MODULE THAT ENTERS A SPECIFIC OPERATING STATE BASED ON THE TYPE OF HANDPIECE TO WHICH THE POWER MODULE IS ATTACHED
20170224400 · 2017-08-10 ·

A surgical tool that includes a sterilzable handpiece that receives an aseptic power module. The handpiece includes a data tag that contains data identifying the type of handpiece. The power module includes a reader that reads the data from the data tag. Based on the type of handpiece the power module selectively actuates the power generating unit internal to the power module. Specifically, the power generating unit is actuated to output energy having the appropriate characteristics for the type of handpiece to which the power module is attached. In many versions of the invention, the data tag is mounted to the latch integral with the handpiece. The power module also interprets the receipt of the data from the handpiece as an indication that the power module is properly latched into the handpiece.

There are provided various embodiments of medical instruments to perform knee surgery. In one embodiment a finned platform for mounting a cutting block is provided. The finned platform can be used on either a femur or tibia to allow for the proper cuts when performing a knee surgery. In another embodiment, a tibial trial is shown having a fin. The fin is useful to reinforce the bone to reduce the risk of fracture during bone preparation. In another embodiment, a reamer is provided having a plurality of cutting flutes. It may be desirable to utilize a guide with the reamer to allow the reamer to cut a non-circular portion of the tibial bone. In yet another embodiment, a plurality of fixation pegs are provided on the tibial implant to allow for easy removal of such implant if a revision surgery becomes necessary.
